i have a set of eighteen 0.4 fl. oz. of acrylic paints.. and i seem to run out after i've even finished one painting. am i using too much? or is this normal? my paintings arent very big... like 8x10... so why do i run out of paint so fast?

should i use less at a time?

What? You use what you use. You like the result? Then you must have used the right amount.

I have seen painters use up to 20 tubes of paint PER COLOR in one painting. Jackson Pollock used it by the gallon.

Post a picture of your work. You make me very curious about your 'mystery paint'. :)

never be afraid to use your paint! this is something i grapple with all the time... although its because i pay $10 or more for a tube of oil paint and use large canvases. 0.4 fl oz does sound small... i usually buy larger tubes of paint for acrylics. It doesnt sound like you're using too much paint (i doubt thats even possible) just need bigger tubes of paint is all. Liquitex makes a nice medium sized tube for a decent price.

If you start to feel like you're using too much, just remember that van gogh had some paintings that were 3 inches thick with paint :)

Hi,

I don't use acrylics, but are you using them as they come from the tube or are you mixing them with a medium ?
Are you using a good brand ? Doesn't need to be an expensive one, but at least a good one.
If you want to learn and get great advice go to http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums and scroll down to find the Acrylics Forum.
I would think that you may be doing something wrong, depending of course of the result you want to post.
For inteance if I paint with a brush, I'll spend a certain amount. If I use a painting knife, of course I'll spend much more.

Kind regards,

José
