Eastern Orthodox Church is the largest single Christian communion in the world and is believed to be the ORIGINAL church. Southern Baptist church (or convention) was created 1845. There's about 16 million SBs compared to 150-350 million EOs.

Eastern Orthodox Church takes the religion quite a lot more seriously than any Protestant Church does. For example, fasting is part of the EO religious life. A SB may fast if she chooses so, but it's not demanded and frankly, it's seen as something not quite ok...

Also, EO says there are authorities whose interpretation of the scripture is more accurate than others' - SB says everyone's interpretation is equally valid.

The hierarchy in the EO Church is very strict and authoritative. SB doesn't have a hierarchy to speak of.

EO has very strict church services, insence, bells, icons, chanting and walks with crosses and icons, SB doesn't. EO's service is worship of God, not evangelical, thus they have kept the "original" language.

EO churches are more beautiful, traditional and impressive than SB churches.

EO has cloisters, SB doesn't.

EO has saints and Virgin Mary is given a more important place.

EO baptises the children, SB adults.

And so on and so forth... In the end these are just polish... they are both Christianity.

The Eastern or "Greek" Orthodox Church was formed when it disagreed with the Catholic church about who had the divine right from god. It is debated whether they split from the Catholics, or the other way around. It is popular in Greece, Eastern Europe and Russia. That being said, many of their beliefs and practices are still very similar to that of the Catholic Church.

Southern Baptists are a conservative church that can trace its lineage back to the Calvinists of France. Who were the second branch of protestantism after the Lutherans.

The three forms of Christianity are Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant.

1. They are the same in that both recognize that Jesus is the Son of God, part of the Trinity and that only through him can we find God and Heaven.
2. Eastern Orthodox churches baptize babies and confirm them when they are old enough to decide. Baptist churches do not baptize babies, only those who are old enough to make their own decision to follow Christ.
3. Eastern Orthodox churches believe that Christ is in the Communion elements. Baptists believe that the communion elements are symbols of relationship with Christ.
4. Eastern Orthodox churches emphasize your relationship with church. Baptist churches emphasize your individual relationship with God.
5. Eastern Orthdox churches annoint priests to intercede with God. Baptists believe that each Christian is part of a priesthood and they don't need an individual to intercede for them.
6. Eastern Orthodox churches are usually ornate with icons and images which picture scenes from church history.
Baptist churches are usually very plain.

Eastern Orthodoxy churches are far more beautiful inside than Baptist ones.. (g)

Eastern Orthodoxy is an early schism from Catholicism. Baptism is a much later split-off from Catholicism. Both split away for different reasons.

Eastern Orthodoxy split because of a dispute in the wording of the Nicean Creed. Baptism split sometime around the Protestant Reformation (possibly earlier). I think they believe in adult baptism only and dispute the idea that infant baptism (a Catholic custom) is valid.

I know there are many more differences.

Night and Day.
Eastern Orthodox are closer to us Catholics. Baptists a believe in Sola Fide, Sola Scripture, and Once saved always saved as well as symbolic communion. Orthodox believe in the 7 Sacraments and the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist.

E.O. will be much like the catholic church-actually it is the Eastern Catholic church. Southern Baptist came out of the "radical reformers" group of the Reformation. They actually threw away all church doctrine, service, believe, sacraments and everything else and started all over with just the Bible-no nothing from the established church was allowed.
They are one of the few stable Christians denominations left.

The biggest one is that Orthodox believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Baptists believe that the Lord's Supper is merely a symbol done to recall an event.

Eastern Orthodox have many traditions which make no sense and have pagan origins or are based on pagan ideas. When someone dies they eat, drink and some even sing. They believe that the dead can still eat.
