Our world is desperately in need of help in preventing global warming. I've heard that the federal government is not helping to prevent global warming. Would a signed petition be considered if sent to the government?

I think some aren't so sure what global warming is. It doesn't mean that if global warming is stopped, the world will grow cold. It's just the opposite. Global warming is not natural. The greenhouse gases are. Maybe a little more research would let ones that don't know to understand.

It is typical to hear send it to the Chinese. Do you know why China's emissions are up and they build more power stations ever other week?
North America and Europe have exported production to China so China builds all the crap you buy. In them building it, we save money, they produce the emissions to sell us our goods and we blame them for their emissions to produce what we have asked for.
Did you see CNN or other News outlets on the Christmas Day sales, the hundreds of millions spent and it makes me sick to see the pretty packaging that requires emissions to make, then we fill landfills with the packaging.
The problem with global warming is the debate on policy without the science to back the policy. Go to http://www.thermoguy.com/globalwarming-heatgain.html and follow the images to see what you can do at home to cut heat gain atmospherically.
We need a petition demanding debate and there is a site online on demanding debate. I don't know how serious they are or how objective.

I think that the reason it would be a bad idea is that there is really nothing that can be done. In other words, it would suggest to the government that we begin to try and control the weather when we ourselves are supposedly to blame for changing the weather as it is. Put yet another way, why tamper with the weather when it might make things worse.
Something to think about: the earth has gone through catastrophic changes, some times quickly and sometimes slowly, in its 4 billion year history. What may or may not be happening with the weather, may or may not be by the hand of humans. There have been wave after wave of mass extinctions and tempter fluctuations long before humans walks this planet.
Anyway, who are we to say what the best weather situation should be...Most of the solar system and universe are ice cold which means global warming is in fact responsible for life.

Yeah i think of notably lots anybody has heard of the Oregon Petition. a million) The 31,000 signers are no longer all scientists. all of us with a bachelor's degree or greater acceptable ought to sign. consequently you have a guy who have been given a level in botany 40 years in the past and then grew to grow to be a gardener sign the petition. and positively, who cares what a dentist thinks approximately international warming? what's the factor of this petition? 2) those 31,000 symbolize under a million% of the inhabitants with technological awareness levels. 3) The petition does no longer say international warming isn't occurring. It says we are uncertain human beings are inflicting it. huge distinction. For greater advantageous information, see the 'Lists of Skeptical Scientists' area interior the link under.

I don't see how it would be good. All the trees that would be cut down to make the paper. All the energy used by using the computers to do such a thing. An intercontinental concert didn't do anything, not sure a petition (is that even the right word?) would do anything. For reference, see the USA for Africa movement. Or the Concert for Bangladesh. I believe those countries are worse than before.

Petitions to our government seldom do anything more than antagonize politicians who either have their mind made up by money, or by other inducements, like status, or pleasures for a season.
And WHY would you want to work against Global Warming? Have you not seen in History that Global Warming led to plenty of food, room to expand, great crops, spare time for artistic and scientific pursuits when man was not having to work full-time just to survive.
Conversely, times of Global Cooling were times of cold, want, retreat to the smaller isolated areas and overcrowding. Poverty and pestilence happened in those times, and many people died of cold, starvation, and disease. And often had to pay ruinous taxes to the government so the government could survive in style.
Do YOU want us to return to cold, starvation, and disease? The send your petition in, and see how loudly your congressman laughs, as he takes another stock option on Carbon Credits! And passes another law costing you much money.
Note that Al Gore does not live as he preaches you should. Check Snopes online...really tells the story.. Note the lavish concerts that did nothing to help either Global Warming or the people around in dire need. Money that could have build a hospital, or provided hundreds of refrigerators to small bush hospitals without any, went to heat the air, and satisfy a lust for a spectacle.
And you ARE aware that Al Gore's film went into court, where an impartial judge looked at the evidence presented from a legal standpoint, and found virtually all was either lies, or misrepresentations.
Now, you want to petition for something based on proven lies and misrepresentations? Will that really help anything?
That this is all man-made is not yet determined, and the Gorean Computers never have worked right...not given him reliable answers that he wants, so they keep tweaking so he can have data to wave that is scary enough.
Finally, there is proof by Nature and by man's experiment of how to easily and cheaply set the temperature to whatever the world agrees we all want, even without bulldozing the jungles for Carbon Credits as they do now.
But, nobody in the GW movement will tell you; they want you to pay for their efforts, and pay handsomely. With your liberty and future.
So far they have come up with teensy cars, and corn Ethanol fuel which is not only itself more expensive, but which is mainly succeeding in driving the price of your food up and up, and polluting and killing life in the Gulf of Mexico.
What would be a good idea is to study the real natural cycle, in some detail, and the history of what happened to people as the globe warmed and cooled naturally, over a wide range.
And then study large volcanic eruptions with respect to effect on the local and world-wide climates, such as Krakatoa in 1883, I believe it was. A period of time the Goreans hate for you to see! And the relationship between the environmentalists efforts in Industry and the ice age scare of the 1950-1975 period of time. And why the global warming took off like a rocket after the environmentalists were satisfied, circa 1975.
Eyeopening, in my opinion.
And just for laughs, do you think it is better to spend billions on sea walls and dams and dikes to keep old cities with all their slums and decaying buildings in danger, or should we use the profits from global warming improving our crops in nutrition and availability, and move the cities inland, and build them right for good living and crime prevention?
Nah, we love slums and floods and crimes, don't we? Billions for sea walls, not one penny for improvements and relocation!
I think a petition to research and publicize the good side of Global Warming needs to be petitioned for.
Oh, and have you asked how, since 7000 years ago it was warmer than now, with BIG forests growing in Greenland, implying little or no ice there, proven by stumps melting out of the ice and dating them, how the Polar Bears and Walrus and Penguins survived? Why did they not all die off then, too hot and no ice and no Goreans to care for them. Just a thought question.
Temperature is temperature, whether back then or here and now. If we check on how they survived then, we can help them do it now even better as we know more real science!
My recommendation: Do a bit more thinking and asking questions across the opinion areas, before you produce a worthless and maybe harmful petition.

yes but i think you should also talk to your local elected offishal about how much this means to you and how others share your beliefs (the Petition). i just think sending it to the white house will let it get lost in the noise.
