There are two types of government grants for college, and they are the Pell Grant and state grant. Both are need based. It takes into consideration the family size and a percentage formula. It takes into consideration your income and savings at a higher rate than your parents' income and savings. You complete the FAFSA form to qualify for both. It can also bring the work study program, need based scholarships from the college's endowment fund, and student loans. You need to apply for them in your senior year. However, it does not mean that you can't start searching for private scholarships. I recommend keeping a GPA of 3.0 and studying for the SAT and ACTs because both can bring merit scholarships from the college itself. Volunteering can bring money as does participating in school clubs. I will include some excellent free resources to locate money for college. Good luck!
