When I was a teenager, my best friend became a born again Christian. She invited me to a weekend party at her place, and I accepted. I got to meet a number of her friends, and hear live music around a bonfire, which was all great until the songs gradually becoming more and more Christian in theme.

After about an hour of pure Christian songs, the lead singer stopped, saying that he felt the the presence of Jesus. We all held hands and they prayed out loud. 'Apparently' Jesus had a message for a certain 'someone' in the group, and that person was led to them to hear his truth and glory. grrrrrrr!

I was furious! I had been 'led' there under false pretenses. I lived far away, and had no way home. I was trapped. That whole weekend was organized as a 'rescue mission' for ME!
I could hear them plotting how to 'save me' while they thought I was sleeping. They truly felt they were doing God's work by lying, scheming and kidnapping me. The nerve!

Has anyone else been kidnapped for Jesus?

My father-in-law is a born again Christian... he effectively kidnapped my son when he was 14 years old. He told him he was taking him to a professional wrestling match. After they got there, it was discovered to be a revival of sorts. My father-in-law forced my son to go to the front of the church, give everyone his full name and to allow Jesus to be his personal savior. He then told my son that if he didn't go to church, even if it meant sneaking out, he'd go to hell. Not as bad as your story but I was still upset.

I had a slightly similar experience, I was going a church retreat with a friend. He was not a member of the church, he worked there part time as a janitor. I had no idea that the purpose of the retreat was to high pressure the "unsaved" to become saved. (I have attended many church events where there was NO pressure to convert so I was surprised) Once there, I was to far away to just leave, so I was stuck for the weekend.

I wouldn't exactly call it kidnapping, but I do think there is an air of dishonesty about it.

that's God's suitable plan for salvation. ...and that i think God isn't long winded :). Jesus additionally did no longer write something all the way down to leave it for us, yet love and have faith his disciples with the help of coaching them continually fairly than writing his teachings down. The apostles have been in all probability to have been greater attracted to struggling with alongside with with Jesus, and in questioning that Jesus will lead them into Jerusalem victoriously, seizing the throne to grow to be king. think of, the apostle remembering the capability Jesus has, in calming the hurricane in the lake, could probably obliterate anybody who could have come against him. rather, Jesus did no longer even fence himself against the roman solder who struck him devoid of a reason. The apostles have been completely caught in this occasion unawared that Jesus pick to offer up his existence in obedient to his Father's will, hence fulling the scriptures. That became a suitable settings the place God's see all the sins in this worldwide became summed up in the evil represented with the help of betrayal over the previous supper preferable as much as crucifixion of Christ.

That's a great story and it's an interesting tactic that the Christians use to coerce vulnerable people to be slaves to a delusion like them. I've heard the Mormons do something similar.

To be honest, I don't find it much different than the churches who say they're giving away a Harley or xbox 360 or something if you attend church this weekend. I am a Christian and I do like to share my faith with others but I don't feel that I have to trick someone into listening to me and I also don't feel like I have to "lure" someone into a church. Sorry that your friends don't have the guts to share their faith with you without lying about it.

That's a shame that your friend was not honest with you. You might have had a better experience if you went away that weekend knowing what was going to happen.

OMG! I'm sorry but I just had to comment on this... I can't believe that your "best friend" would do that to you. I'm wondering if she is still your best friend or if you kicked her to the curb.

I would have called everyone I knew to come and pick me up! No way would I have stayed...

that is scary
I cant imagine how you must have felt ... and no way to go home
yes they most likely believed they were doing good.... which is even scarier
but no one should have to go through this let alone a child/teenager

I'm not sure that I would have been as angry as I was afraid.

Didn't you feel like you had been taken by mentally ill people?

Love and blessings Don
