Its no longer messing with history. in case you study a fuller version of the story you will see that the island replaced into initially talked approximately as Iwo To, yet some jap military officers made a mistake while calling it Iwo Jima and the call caught. So truly its like putting history top. in spite of its talked approximately as, an identical issues nevertheless got here approximately there.

The Bonin Islands (Ogosawara Rhetto) reverted to Japan in 1964. That included Iwo Jima, site of one of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific War. The Ryukyu Islands, including Okinawa, reverted back to Japan in 1972. It was the site of the bloodiest battle of the Pacific War. Both island groups were Japanese soil prior to World War Two. We signed a peace treaty with Japan in 1951 after accepting their surrender in September of 1945. So, it makes sense to return their land to them.

I'm confident it is their land and we have signed an agreement to be there. Never the less, I wish we would close many of these bases. Many of these countries have been safe for so long they have forgotten that there are real dangers in the world and have become ungrateful. Let them fend for them selves.

Yes, we whupped them. War is over. Didn't belong to us in the first place. If we didn't we be just like the Japanese were before the war started. We are better than that. I hope.

The US occupied the island for certain period only and it was returned to Japan on June 26, 1968.
I think if the US battled with Japan during the WW1 (not WW2) and won the battle, the Iwo jima would be yours like Guam and Saipan islands (won't be like Hawaii, cos it is too small).
The time was on Japan's side. The era of WW2 was too late to expand teritories. The time turned in to the era that most colonies and dependent countries in the world was hoping and tried to go independent (Japan was agitating those countries with some slogans during WW2).
Japan faced defeat, but you know what happened in the post war time. China, India, Pakistan, Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Laos, Cambodia, Korea, Singapore, Brunei, East Timor and other lots African and Mid Eastern nations, etc.
Yugo is no exception Japan did do nothing though. Post war time in the 20th century was the era of independence.
