Ya means already. Ya la estoy limpiando = I'm already cleaning it.

In the sentence, Lupe replaced "la cocina" (which is the direct object in the sentence) with "la" which is a direct object pronoun. This is a way of making sentences shorter and not being repetitive.

For example, if someone asked "¿Compraste el libro?" (Did you buy the book?), you could answer "Sí, lo compré." (Yes, I bought it). Notice that the direct object pronoun (lo) is placed before the conjugated verb.

Another example:
¿Puedes hacer las maletas? - Can you pack the suitcases?
Sí, puedo hacerlas -or- Sí, las puedo hacer. - Yes I can pack them

With a conjugated verb and a verb in the infinitive, the pronoun can be placed either at the end of the verb in the infinitive or before the conjugated verb.

For a full explanation of direct object pronouns and their usage, I suggest that you go to

scroll down to Unit 4, click on the direct object pronoun lessons, and click "written lesson."

By the way, it is la basura, not el basura, so it would be la, and with las sillas it would indeed be las.

Buena suerte con tu tarea. :)

Basically,

Ya la estoy limpiando.
(I am already cleaning it.)
ya-already
la-it, feminine because kitchen is feminine (cocina)
estoy-I am
limpiando-cleaning

It is la basura..so the "it" would be "la"

for "las" sillas, you would use "las" for "them, plural"

Here are some examples:

Are you cleaning the chairs?
Estas limpiando las sillas?

Yes, I am cleaning them.
Si, Las estoy limpiando.
o
Si, estoy limpiandolas.

Y'all are working on direct object pronouns replacing direct objects to avoid sounding so mechanical and repetitive. This helps you learn how to reply to questions in Spanish how you would in English so you don't sound so mechanical like "Are you cleaning the chairs?" "yes, I am cleaning the chairs"...you usually would just respond with "yes I am cleaning them."

Good luck and let us know if you need more help! :)

Spanish can be confusing.
>>"Ya La" is "I am " It's a way of saying that she is already cleaning.
>>It's not el basura, or lo basura. Remember that spanish words are either male or female, Basura is female, so it's "La Basura"
>>Yes, sillas are "Las Sillas"

"ya la estoy limpiando" means: I'm cleaning it now
Where "la" is the article refering to the kitchen "it" in english and "ya" is "now", and about the "basura", basura is a femenine sustantive so its "la basura" so the article is "la" and in sillas is "las" because its a femenile sustantive in plural
