My seventeen year old daughter is going away with some friends on a roadtrip, and while she's gone, I want to redo her room.
She's always saying she wants to redo it, but she has no ideas on how yet.
So I thought as a nice suprise, i'd do it for her.
I need some ideas on stuff to get her, and heres what she needs.
1. She got rid of everything on her walls, she said she grew out of it all, so I need things for her walls.
2. Some things to put around the room in decoration.
3. Some things for her desk, etc.
Her favorite color is purple, so her walls are purple and so is her bedding.
Also, i'm redoing her bathroom, which is pink, so I need some tips on that.
If your sixteen/seventeen/eighteen and can give me some pictures of what your rooms look like, or if your a mother who has a child that age, that would be really helpful.
Or to find something online and give me a picture.
Thank you everyone.

She loves the color of her walls, bathroom, and bedding, so i think im going to keep it that way.
She mostly wants more mature looking decorations around her room, but she doesnt know which direction to go in or where to start.

*She doesnt play sports
*She doesnt wear lots of make-up
*She loves having friends over to hang out
*She has a small room
*She doesnt like the playboy bunny

Try to co-ordinate the pink and the purple into each room with accessories. Yellow would be a great accent color to compliment and contrast the pink and purple. ie; pillows, knick nacs and the pictures for the walls that incorporate all of the above color scheme. Look for different textures for the pillows and think about changing the window treatments to match the new decor. Mix the pink , purple and yellow into both the bath and bedroom. New towels and a shower curtain or decorative shower curtain if you haVe glass doors is an easy addition that makes such a big difference. Hope my suggestions help ! good luck

well if she really likes purple and you dont want to re do the walls then try putting some big polka dots on her wall just to give it some flavor. have her bedroom filled with just 1 or 2 topics something she likes and make the other topic stuff to go with the first topic. something to go on the desk would be like a lamp and some books. in the bathroom come up with a cute basket type thing and put soaps and lotion in it on the counter just as a decoration. try to make the bedroom and the bathroom the same themes or close to the same things. also make sure to put something in one of the bedrooms that catches everyone eye for example if you do end up doing the dot thing make a huge dot above her bed saying one of her fav phrases or saying her name or something. i no that most girls likes to have mirrors and lots of pics of themselves so trying do that to. im not 16 17 or 18 im 12 and i really hoped that this helped you.

I used to have a very purple room. What shades of purple are you working with? My room now is like a bistro, or a cafe if you prefer with a tall table onstead of a desk and dark brown wood. I kept all of my furniture at or below the halfway mark of my wall, and put pictures above the halfway point. The pictures are like collages of old world european countries. I have a 10gal fish tank that accents very nicely. Have fun!

Ok, for decoration get her posters of famous people she likes. Not like presidants and stuff, thats a mistake parents make waaaay to much. Stuff like singers, acters, etc. Make the room shout out her personality. For example, if she's a punk, then I feel sorry for you. Jk, If she's a punk, then paint rockstar, like stuff on her walls. But she doesn't really seem like a punk. Since she seems kind of girly, try giving her fuzzy pillows. There definately mature enough. Try a silk comforter and silk pillow case. Beanie chairs are usually cool. But remember, girls need girly stuff! (usually). So, if she's a diva, try getting her very diva like stuff, like silk and fuzzy stuff. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, stay away from bunnies (unless it's the happy bunny), flowers, cute little animals, teddy bears (well, duh.), and little cartoons. And remember, stay away from those things, no matter how cute they look. While you're shopping for her, make sure you do NOT think of her as daddy's little girl, or it will turn out a disaster.Good Luck!

The newest trends for decorating rooms is to go very natural. Teens are not immune to this ... most of them like natural elements. Lots of teens come on here and want to know how to do this......she will not 'outgrow' this....
Fung Shui
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In ancient times as well as today, Feng Shui, (風水) pronounced in English as [fÊÅ'Êweɪ] ("fung shway"), was known as "Kan-Yu" which means 'The Law of Heaven and Earth.’ [1] Today's Feng Shui schools teach that it is the ancient Chinese practice of placement and arrangement of space to achieve harmony with the environment. Feng shui literally translates as "wind-water." This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zhangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty:[2]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feng_shui
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Advice for your room design:
Painting....
Since you love colors... why not paint a sunset or sunrise on one wall... not so much a literal interpretation ... but just a hint of sunrise on one wall... and the sunset on the opposite wall....
On the two walls not depicting sunset/sunrise.... go with a sky blue that fades into a forest green for tree tops. You can get vines from the 'Dollar Stores' and wind them around to make real leaves for the trees....
...then a darker brown for tree trunks maybe even textured a bit so you can feel the roughness. Using a thicker paint that is applied with the edge of an artists knife would really make this 'pop'.
Then let that fade into water or grass at the bottom.
If you don't want to make the actual tree trunks and leaves n stuff... just use paint and let it fade one into the other so the divisions of color are there......but less obvious .. a crisscross pattern on the walls as each color meets would achieve this look.
Maybe spring colors on one wall.... and fall colors on the other wall. Or half the walls and do winter/spring then summer/fall on the other.
AIR/WIND~~~~~~~~~~~~>
Add a decorative natural colored fan into the room as well to add the 'wind' element... wind is the element of change and allows the room to 'breathe'. Circulating the air in the room is very healthy for you as well.
WATER~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>
Have a table top fountain.....
water is life giving and life sustaining. Hearing and being close to water is good for the soul and makes us closer to God.
FIRE~~~~~~~~~~~~>
Have a fake fire pit. This will be a square glass tray full of candles. Ten or more candles. No more than one scented candle in the bunch. Make sure the scent is a vanilla, lavendar, or jasmine. (No food smells...this will exite the senses which is just the opposite effect your looking for.) Light them while the water in the fountain is running. You will have sight, sound, and smell to sooth your spirit.
EARTH~~~~~~~~~~~>
For a cool 'Rock Garden'....Use natural river rocks placed in sand as a decorative element in a large square or round decorative tray ...(even a glass baking dish would work)...be sure to include a small tool to be able to play gently in the sand and to be able to push the rocks around (this is a great relaxation technique).
LIFE~~~~~~~~~~~>
Large green plants will give the room life and air and energy ....it will make the room and you more healthy. Bamboo is great for this because it is probably one of the fastest growing, most hearty plants in the world. Caring for your plants will remind you to cherish your own life and the lives of the ones you love.
MEDITATE AND CENTER~~~~~~~~~~~~>
Your bedroom should be a place where you relax... unwind and re-center yourself. Teens are under tremendous amounts of stress related to school, living up to demands from parents and social responcibilities...teens are also stressed from physical changes inside the body as well. This room can be your escape from all that. Once you learn to control yourself and become a centered human being...you will be more able to take on the world outside.
Start doing yoga or meditation. Put in floor pillows and a yoga mat. Maybe even a small floor level table with a comfy fluffy natural colored rug to sit on. You could place your 'rock garden' and 'fire pit' on this small table. (You could get an old coffee table and cut the legs down or off. If you cut the legs of the table off... just put books or concrete blocks under the four corners to make it the height you desire. About 18 inches high would be great.
You can then cover the table with a bamboo mat as a sort of a 'table cloth' made of natural fibers.
DECOR~~~~~~~~~~~>
For bedding... use very soft wispy colors. Just a plain white comforter with white bed sheets. This will make you feel that your bed is clean and fresh. So you will awaken with a clean mind and fresh soul.
Add decorative pillows and a throw over the top to add some drama to the bed... just a soft fuzzy beige or sage green for the throw.... and some silky textured designer pillows to decorate the top of the bed.
CLEANSE THE SOUL AND THE SENSES~~~~~>
Hide clutter... clutter will make your mind and heart feel cluttered. Studies have shown that people who have cluttered homes/rooms tend to have cluttered lives. This will effect your relationships with others, the work that you try to do, and the way you organize your life. That is to be avoided at all costs because it can become a dreadful life consuming habit.
Tips:
Make sure the room stays simple and clean at all times. Buy lots of storage and organizer things for the closet and underbed storage. These can hide shoes and purses and other things that do not need to be displayed in the room.
If what you 'see, hear, smell, and feel' in the room does not add to your joy and make you feel positive.... then it should be hidden away or gotten rid of to make a clean and healthy space for you to live, grow, and love.
