It means to me, "Do not only hear God's word, and know what He wants you to do, DO God's word, and practice what He teaches in the Bible".

You deceive yourself thinking that only hearing His word is good enough. It's not. You have to live it, believe it, and cherish his word and teachings in the Bible. And be a witness to those who need to hear about Jesus.

It is pretty self-explanatory. You can hear all you want but if the words do not cause you to have some form of action (i.e., being a doer of the word), then you are a hearer only. Not a good place to be spiritually. <><

HEARERS OF THE WORD:

In church: "Oh what a lovely Bible reading this morning! Praise the Lord!"

Driving home: "You son-of-a-bi--h! You cut me off!" Later, "I hate having to pass through this neighborhood. I'd better roll up my windows and lock the doors!"

Home - on the telephone: "You wouldn't believe what I heard at church this morning! After the service, Susan told me that Mrs. Smith is having an affair with Mr. Jones!!"

Before bedtime: "Thank You Lord that I'm such a wonderful Christian! I hear Your word every single Sunday!"
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DOERS OF THE WORD:

In church: "Oh Lord, help me to fully understand the Bible reading this morning that I may do Your will more perfectly."

Driving home: "Thank You, Lord, that there wasn't an accident. Please bless that young man that he may realize that his reckless driving can kill others, and himself." Later, "The houses in this neighborhood seem so run down. When I get home I'm going to try and find out if there is any agency or group where I can volunteer to do any work. I'm pretty handy with a hammer and screwdriver! If not, maybe we can start such a group at church."

Before getting home: "I'd better stop in on Ms. Barbara. I think I'll bring her some flowers and sweet rolls. She just loves those sweet rolls. Lord, bless her - 90 years old and still so faithful."

Home - on the telephone: "Could you pray about something that I heard at church this morning? It seems that there are two marriages which need prayer. No, I don't want to tell you the names and spread any gossip -- what if what I heard is not true? Just pray for two couples in our congregation."

Before bedtime: "Lord, be merciful to me, a sinner."

Faith without works is dead. This means that if you don't take and apply the words you read to your life and use the promises and instructions for guiding you through whatever you do in life, then you are making a joke of what you claim to know and believe in. God gave us His instructions in order to make life work best for us while we are here. Not using this and only speaking this shows evidence of an empty belief. My God gives me the surety I need to be complete and full. I have all I need because I know how to stand on the promises and put them into action. This is real life! You needn't have any doubt! His word is doable!

Anyone atheist and christian alike can hear the word it means nothing at all, even a believing hearer is useless, for Satan both hears and believes and yet wants no part in it. instead the faithfull hears and commits the word of God to practice where ever he / she can.

Paul is often quoted "By grace are ye saved, and not of works, lest any man should boast". The next part is left out " for ye are created unto good works that ye should walk in them" On judgement day you are placed according to your works.

Simple. It means that your actions prove what you are more than your words. Just continue reading - 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
