It means your stomach acid is eating your esophagus because of a hiatal hernia or just an overproduction of stomach acids. You need a medication to turn off the acid production. You can try the over the counter acid reducers, but I've been on one of the "purple pills" for years and years (rx), and it's as though I don't have an acid problem at all.

By the way, when you get to the spot where you're having heartburn all the time, it doesn't matter WHAT you're eating. Everything is going to exacerbate the problem. I couldn't eat anything but salad, and even drinking soda was like pouring water onto a grease fire. Get the meds and eat everything again.

Could be several things. Most likely Acid-reflux. I'd go to the dr and have it checked out, but Prilosec worked well for me.
Are you eating lots of fatty and/or spicy foods? Try cutting back some.
