She's just in mild shock from a new situation most likely. Since she likes being held and pet, offer her some dry kibble or kitty treats with your hand. Even if she only eats a few at a time, it's better than an empty stomach.
Cats can hold their bowels in a new situation for about 48 hours. If she hasn't produced a bowel movement by tomorrow morning, or if she still will not eat or drink, please call the vet. Starvation in cats is serious and can quickly lead to organ failure and not passing feces may be a sign of a serious blockage.
In the meantime, keep her confined to a small area at a time so she develops a sense of security. Continue showing her affection and playing with her. She should start to open up soon.

It could be that she's just nervous. Let her choose a quiet place where she is comfortable, & temporarily put her food & water there. Have her litterbox nearby so she doesn't have to venture too far. Keep any other pets away from her & don't disturb her too often.
If you can, find out what she was eating before you got her & keep her on that for a while. Some cats are very picky.
If she hasn't eaten by tomorrow, I would call your vet. If cats go for more than a couple days without eating it can cause some serious health problems. Also, she may have some medical problems that are causing her to not eat.

That's odd and you're right to be concerned. She might be sick, especially if she was a stray. I would take her to a vet as soon as possible just to be on the safe side. It's good to run a physical and test for things like feline leukemia and AIDS anyway.
When I first got my cat, she was a stray and she loved being around people but she wouldn't eat and she slept most of the time. I took her to the vet and I found out she had an upper respiratory infection. She almost died, but I force fed her for a few weeks and gave her about 5 kinds of medicine and she got better after a few days.
I hope she gets better.

She probably is. If you got it from the Humane Society they sometimes have a "Kennel Flu" If she starts sneezing or has a runny nose You will need to get it looked at. She could get very dehydrated, and end up getting really sick.

Yes, that's the "problem" for now. Just be sure that she does eat today or tomorrow. She must eat and if she doesn't she needs to see a veterinarian as soon as you can get her in.
