what size scopes for a .223 rifle?

im thinking of getting a .223 rifle for fox shooting can you recommend some sizes for the scopes (magnification)

Fox and Yotes make very small targets at extended ranges..I would suggest something along the lines of 4-12, or 6-12 Power Target/Varmint Scopes with a Target Dot Reticule for your .223 caliber rifle......

I would go with nothing less that a 6-18x40mm why? Well you can shoot fox with the scope on 6x to give you a wide field of view. Then if you want to go after ground hogs or other varmints you have the power to see them at 300 or 400 yards. I have a 6-18x40mm Leupold VX-II on my 223. I have a 6-24x40mm Bushnell Elite 4200 on my 308 target rifle because that is my long range varmint rifle shooting 155gr Palma match bullets. Once I get her dialed in it will be hell on ground hogs out to at least 500 yards.

I prefer the 6-24x40mm for all my varmint rifles. but the 6-18x40mm works just as good here in the east.

Get the 4 X to 12 X Scope and instead of the 223 get a 22-250 for your purpose.* Buy Remington or Savage Brand rifle.* Or buy a good used rifle and save $$$$..* A new rifle doesn't shoot any better than a good used one (1)*..

There are too many to choose from. What are you looking for? The more the magnification the more the rifle seams to wonder on you while zoomed in. Are you looking at close range? Then don't use a scope. If your looking at anything over 100 yards then you need a reliable scope with a bullet drop compensator built in, unless you've been to sniper school and go thru thousands or rounds to learn how much your bullet drops at different distances. Check out the Shepherd. I found it to be the best for the price does everything.

Varmint rifles usually are topped with higher-magnification scopes, but for fox, you'd do fine even with a fixed 6x. Depending on what else you might hunt, something along the lines of a 4-12x variable might be very nice.

Definitely the 4-12x40 thats what i have on my .223 unless you shooting with some match grade bullets and a 26"+ target barrel get a 6-18x42 or 6-24x44

Something along the lines of a 3-9x variable would probably work best for you. Similar are the 2-7x, 2.5-8x, 3.5-10x, 4-12x.

3X9 are the most common scopes....but for varmints...I would go for a higher power 4X12....maybe even an illuminated post or cross hairs for those night time hunts ( best time for varmints )

it depends on what u will be hunting,, i like to use a 4-9 x 40 for cyotes and put it on 4x power for beaver and rabbits,,
