What sort of cost is involved in setting up/co-owning a cat shelter? I was thinking either here in the UK or somewhere in europe (maybe one of the lesser-known countries)?
Any info greatly appreciated.

.!st Id think about Financing the vets bill. Depending on were you live. you will have to let your council know. (private or rented)your food bill will be another consideration.and the most important. Heating, If you have cages Or pens made they will have to have some sort of constant heat supply.
Your Litter from trays and food .will be a separate council collection .Which costs extra. And the main thing is .be aware of opening your front door of a morning and finding either a cardboard box with mum & kitts.or a sports bag full of the same.
once people know you are a rescue you will aquire a lot of boxes on your door step.and calls to take in morning /noon/night.
But having said that Good luck, Iv done rescue for 30yrs. UK

What a fantastic idea!
There are many costs to consider such as land, cleaning, food, litter, vets, staff etc...but remember the rewards you will reap from what you are doing.
Animal shelters dont get funding, and rely on the kindness of volunteers only, so consider advertising, flag days etc...Maybe if you contacted your local animal shelter they might forward you on to someone who can help,Im sure they would be delighted to help as they are under immense strain and full to the brim over the Christmas period. I really wish we had more shelters in Ireland, as I feel that our standard of care is somewhat lesser than those of other countries.
I wish you the best of luck, and let us know how it goes.

My parents looked into this, i'm not sure on costs but basically to get planning permission in the area of the UK where i lived you had to be away from built up areas due to noise and smell issues etc.

Contact the ones in your area and interview the manager/owner of it. That way you'll be getting accurate information direct from the person who is running the operation.

From the information I know, the government doesn't give money to it so most of the money you get for it will be from private donations. Most of the workers will have to be volunteers and you must be dedicated to spend a lot of your life there.

Not sure, but let me know if you need anyone to go in on it with you! I'd love to do that!
