yes, ps1 cards will fit in a ps2
ps1 games will play in a ps2, and can only directly save/load with a ps1 memory card
ps2 games will only save/load with a ps2 memory card

u can use a ps1 memory card to load and save only ps1 games, but u can play them on a ps2.

Yes, but only for PSOne games. If you want to save games for a PS2, you have to buy the PS2 memory card.
