my father recently told me that there might still be some things from the military in my mothers house. (they are divorced) if we find any of these weapons (he said there should be a practice granade but i heard a story of him bringing a rocket launcher home once) how do we get rid of them?

Hearing, and seeing are two different things. If these items are found, and you don't want them, contact the Police, and turn them in. If you find anything that might look like an explosive, DON'T touch it, and definitely contact the Police. You could always contact a weapons dealer to determine if anything is illegal. You might make a couple of bucks.

Your father should have removed them himself so as not to endanger anyones life. If he wont find them and since you dont know what you are looking for, I would call the police and have your house searched and have them removed safely for everyones sake. Those are not toys and if you dont know how to properly handle them, you could hurt yourself and others in your family. As long as you are looking for help you wont get into any trouble by the police. They will ensure all these times are safely removed so noone gets hurt or any children wont find them and get hurt.

Eyeball only - do not touch - the weapons/devices...if there are any legal weapons remove these [or get help to do so] THEN tell police about anything left : let them remove the rest.

If you really must get rid of 'em, call a lawyer and let him do it, otherwise you may find yourself facing felony charges. Always have a lawyer when dealing with law enforcement.

Seriously, if you don't wish either of your parents to go to jail (leaving the service with equipment that was issued to you is a serious crime, especially a frigging rocket launcher) you need to hire a lawyer. Be warned.

Take them to your local police BUT DO NOT WALK INTO THE STATION WITH THEM!! Go inside and explain what you have and let an officer go to your car with you. I did that with a shotgun we found in a house we bought. Walking into a police station with any kind of weapon will draw the kind of attention you do not want, like having a few guns pointed at you as you are told to hit the deck.

Call the police. They can send a bomb squad over to dispose of the items.

Not knowing how old you are, I would suggest calling the authorities and telling them what you just wrote, that it's heresay, and you want to be sure the house is safe to stay in.

Don't make any accusations, your father might just be trying to do stuff to get your mom in trouble, and all that's just dirty fighting you shouldn't get yourself involved in. Don't try to get in between them, just try to get anything dangerous out of the house. And don't do it yourself.

I would contact the local police, explain just like you did here and they will perform a "safe" search for you. They could be very dangerous if old or not maintained and still "live".
