My dog was watching a snake chase some mice on Discovery one mouse ran off the side of the screen and my dog ran behind the tv to look for it!

My German Shepherd watches TV all the time. I've never had another dog like her. I've had others that would occasionally be attracted for a moment but she actually sits right in front of it, like a child, and watches it. Her personal favorite programs are Funniest Home Videos, Dog Whisperer and Meercat Manor, pretty much in that order. And she really watches it. Her head moves when main characters walk across the screen. She also occasionally gets attracted to commercials.

And, unlike some of the websites I've read, she really watches it. Not just for a moment but, sometimes, for half an hour to an hour at a time.

I have read that it depends o the breed of dog. I have had a pure bred Poodle, Shiatsu, Chihuahua, "lasie"-type Collie, and two pure bred American Spaniels, and none of them ever watched TV.

I do hear that some dogs do.

My sister in law owns a Border Collie, but I never noticed it watching TV. Maybe it does, when ever there's no company.

funny you mention football,my son bought a bull mastiff pup when he lived here with me and my husband, well it was about 4mths old and my son went out and left us dogsitting,my husband was making a fuss of the pup and the pup was jumping around, going crazy then the football match he was waiting for came on so he spoke to the dog as if it were human,he told it to go lie down now playtime was over and now it was time to watch the match,to my amazement, the dog went over lay infront of the tv and lay there until half time then got made a fuss of again for the half time duration, after that back down again infront f the tvtill the final whistle went.this happened everytime there was football on the tv.i was getting annoyed coz he only did this when liverpool played and messed around when my team(man united) played.

My Beagle likes gameshows. That aside, she likes any t.v, which is why she'll fall asleep with the tv on.

Relating this to dogs and cats themselves, when dogs and cats have separation anxiety, owners usually leave on a t.v so that their dogs have something to be distracted by, therefore relieving some anxiety.

In my own opinion, I think they just like the noise, and while they may not understand it,they love it.

My dogs only glance at the TV if there is a strange noise going on in some program I'm watching, other then that they don't care.

Ours did. If she saw a dog or cat come up on the screen, she would go nuts, she'd go up to the screen and bare her teeth, growl and bark until the dog or cat were no longer on the screen. Then hop back up on the couch with us and watch what ever we were watching. She was a Doberman Pinscher.

My dogs will pay interest whilst there are animals on television, yet as quickly because it switches to people he loses activity. We watched One guy and His dogs at the same time final week. as quickly because of the fact the credit start to roll for Eastenders he is going to mattress, or whilst he hears any music like the Eastenders subject. He is going at present to mattress as quickly as I close down homestead windows and the little jingle performs too. i could desire to have sent him at present to mattress some circumstances whilst those noises have been in the historic past!
