don't eat aspirin before hand, and remember to breathe...lol
it doesn't feel pretty, and sort of agonizing... and hold still. haha and take care of it, afterward. white petroleum jelly and Saran wrap covered does the trick...and change it often. don't let it dry out. scab up.. ink will come out of your skin and fade the hue.

The thought of it all is worse than the reality, honestly!
Make sure you've had a good meal, a couple of hours before you go, so your blood sugars are nice and stable.
Many studios wont allow a Friend in with you, for hygiene reasons, so don't be shocked if this is the case.
Take some hard sweets to sook on, and maybe some chewing gum, partly to take your mind off it, but also to relax you if you are atall paranoid about bad breath-you will be up close and personal with your artist!lol
If you like, take your ipod, and turn it up LOUD...close your eyes, relax, and try to enjoy the sensation - it CAN be quite pleasant, once you've settled into it.
Chat to your artist, about anything and everything, to take the edge of your nerves.
I find I prefer to ask the artist to chat to me, so I can listen, and focus on his voice, but I tend not to say too much back! lol
Enjoy =)

Try and relax. And remember to breathe... I've seen first timers go in and hold their breath when it starts to get a little painful (natural reaction when the body is suddenly inflicted with pain) and pass out. I even catch myself doing it sometimes depending on where I am getting done.

Breath and don't tense up, bring music to keep your mind off the pain while they do it. The outlining is the worst, but the coloring is okay, because your kinda numb by then.

first, i hope that you have researched your artist and have a good one because not all tattooers are good at what they do. i have seen plenty of HORRIBLE tattoos (and i have had a couple of them myself). if you have not researched your tattoo artist then i suggest doing that before gettting anything tattooed on your body.

also, i hope you are getting a good tattoo and not some crappy flash because you'll likely regret that later in life.

eat a good meal before you go to get tattooed, even tho you'll probably be nervous it will help you to be able to stand the pain. are you getting an actual "chest piece" or are you just getting a small tattoo on your chest? there is a difference. the larger tattoo will take quite a while and will likely hurt a lot. my husband has a tattoo on his chest and he said it has been his most painful.
good luck.

You should talk to a few local tattoo artists and see what ideas they have. Many are very experienced would be the most help in giving you suggestions. Plus, you should take the time to visit a few shops and get a feel for the vibe... Believe me, you don't want to be uncomfortable with the people... sounds like you'll be uncomfortable enough while getting the tattoo. I bet they'll come up with something great though!

If you want to find some local shops, check out http://findtattooshops.com. Just enter your address or city/state and you'll find all tattoo shops within a 50 mile radius of there. Good luck!

its going to hurt
but what i noticed was that it didn't hurt as much when i would breath out. but when i held my breath it hurt a lot
its worth it though. it only hurts on some spots, but you feel the pain in the weirdest places. i felt it mostly on my nipple and collar bone

you'll be fine they don't hurt to bad. drink (no alchol) and eat before you go. if it's a big tat make sure the tattooist changes the needle regularly. keep still and keep talking to keep your mind off of it

Don't do it. You can't have them removed. They are permanent, what happens when you get old and wrinkled?
