Other than family camping trips I have not been on a retreat in years and the last was 20 years ago at Montserat Jesuit Retreat House. I am considering going one with my mother who is dealing with emotional problems following an abortion 30 some odd years ago. Any advice please?
Peace Be With You,
Debra

Some Catholic friends have gone on retreat at the monastary near Cullman, Alabama. It's so beautiful and peaceful there. May I suggest wherever you go taking something to journal in, and a favorite devotional book as well as your Bible?
Blessings to you and your mother.

I go on a spiritual retreat each time I walk in nature, rock climb in the mountains or go to a Beltane or Samhain weekend Sabbat. (About 300 of us Pagans camp out in a Nature Preserve area and hold ritual and drum circle. Uplifting and gorgeous!)

I think it would be great for you to go with your mom and support her. It's unfortunate that she is still having issues about this event of 30 years ago. Go have fun, enjoy yourselves and support her.

i've been on 7 ten day vipassana meditation retreats. best thing i've done in my life. it's both physically and mentally challenging but has the ability to purify a meditator to the core of their very being. it's drawn from the Buddhas teaching on observing the body and mind as it truly is. people from all religions attend the retreats (even Christian priests). no conversion from one religion to another, only conversion from unhappiness to happiness.(something the teacher always says)///

Everywhere, everytime can be a spiritual retreat if you know how, or know the truth. You don't have to go anywhere. Everything you will ever need is within you.

everyday with Jesus is a spiritual trip, reading the word and praying and being close to God. Religion is hanging around the cross, Christianity is getting on it. You can feel God`s presence right where you are at home and worship Him there.

I haven't, but I recently signed up for one. I would go with her, from what I hear they help with all problems- and I suggested a guided one.
