Well, you have plenty of rants in response to your rant. And one good answer, from Judy.
I have no intention of tring to live off of my SS income when it comes. It will be a part of my retirement strategy but not even a major part of it. Anyone who expects it to be their sole support is kidding themselves since it was never intended to provide that in the first place.

Social security was never designed to be enough to live on, although some people do. Even at the start it was set up to supplement your own savings for retirement.
No, it's not being phased out - in fact, increases are given every year.
