No it's not tacky girl! The bachelorette party is where you go out with your bridesmaids, close family and friends and you party all night and at times they give you sexy lingerie to go with it....it's your last night out with the girls as a single lady! You do the whole thing with bar hopping, male stripper joints, riding around town in a limo and just have a blast with your friends....girls only night!

The bridal shower is a more formal gathering that your bridesmaids or your mother or mother in law organizes and you can have it for ladies only or do it coed and it be for both you and your groom! This is where people give you wedding gifts for your home etc.

Have both and enjoy both of them to the max....have a blast at your last night out! Remember this is a once in a lifetime thing! Well it suppose to be! It's your night out! Enjoy!
Good Luck!

Shower is an invite to come share food, fun, friends and offer a gift to the bride. Bachelorette party means getting friends together for a final fling of fun. Usually at a restaurant, then hop to some places where spirits flow and dancing is a must. Can also include a "male dance review". No gifts are expected. However, unless told otherwise, you are usually responsible for your own tabs and usually a round of drinks for the bride if not for the entire party. Some people plan ahead and have everyone chip in a certain amount to cover the costs of the evening. Can be elaborate or just a couple of drinks with friends.
I have hosted several. I started at my house for cocktails and food. Provided a driver or two and transported my guests. Kept the party together. And it was nice bringing your own bouncer if the need did arise.

The bachelorette party should just be the brides closest friends, usually a night of partying at a friends house or out on the town.
The bridal shower includes the bride and groom's relatives and friends and is usually a day time event with a meal and gifts for the bride.

A Bridal Shower is a classier version of a Bachelorette Party. You usually invite family members and friends to a Bridal Shower and only bring your best girlfriends to a Bachelorette Party. I don't think it's tacky to have both.

at a bridal shower you get useful household gifts and it is a ladies luncheon. (moms, grandmas, aunts, older friends)Nothing too formal but it isn't wild and crazy like a bachelorette party. There you have the bridal party girls - maybe a few others depending on the situation and you go out to party. A bar, a strip club, a night on the town, etc. no gifts.)

You can have both.

Gifts are required ONLY for the bridal SHOWER.

Gifts need not be given at a bachelorette party or the wedding.

The bridal shower is for the girls and ladies of the families to get together, along with close friends and sometimes co-workers.
A bachelorette party is usually just a planned fun time of some sort, for the BMs and girlfriends of the bride. No gifts are usually given for this, unless they are gag gifts.
