I have full coverage insurance on my car where I live in Kansas. My boyfriend has liability insurance on his truck. We both have valid drivers licenses. His truck is not working and we do not have the money to fix it. We have been sharing my car. He is not included on my policy though. If he drives my car and gets in a wreck is it covered? What if he gets pulled over? As long as he has his proof of insurance and drivers license is it ok for him to drive my car?

Since your car is being provided for your boyfriends regular use - it is best to contact your agent and list him as a driver on your policy.

DONT NOT ASSUME he is covered.

it depends on the company.

For example, I work at a small insurance company now with cheap policies.... if someone has driven you car MORE then 24 hours total.. they are a regular user and if they arent on your policy your claim will be denied.

Ive worked at big companies before that would never deny a claim for that.. but it just depends.

What if your boyfriend crashes your car into a 25k 08' vehicle and causes 4 injuries worth 25k each?! Thats 125k you now owe for the rest of your life!

Dont you think youd rather pay a few extra dollars for the month or so he uses your car and be safe? please please please call your company to be sure hes covered... ive seen way too many peoples lives ruined from stuff like this.

I'm not totally sure about the US but I'm assuming insurance is similar in most countries.

Your partner needs to be named on your insurance document for your vehicle to be covered.

He can also be covered for third party (liability) only, IF he has fully comprehensive insurance on his own vehicle. He will probably not be covered as he only has liability on his own vehicle.

Check your partner's insurance paperwork, but I don't believe he is covered to drive your car. If he gets pulled over he'll be charged. If he gets into an accident, he'll be charged for driving with no insurance and the other person will probably gain payment by suing him. And you will get nothing for your car if it is wrecked, as well as getting a black mark on your own insurance for letting someone drive your car without valid insurance.
