I think everyone is sad and scared when the end or their life comes. We will miss our loved ones, we know they will miss us... and I (for one) would fear a painful death.

Being told i had "weeks" to live would, sincerely, seem like a blessing to me.
But if it were a diagnosis of terminal disease with the end of it unknown -- or a YEAR or more -- that would upset me. I fear mostly the suffering and (a close second) the indignities, the burden on my loved ones who would have to tend my slowly rotting remains (before i die). Knowing it is "only weeks" would go a long way toward relieving these fears.
Being a believer allows me to kvetch at God about these things, which opens the doors to actually speaking with the living and deciding the important things.
Crying at funerals is done by the living, FOR the living. It's called grief.

I agree with you, but that doesn't seem to be what happens. And before someone trots out the "no atheists in foxholes" cliche: atheists are aware they're going to die eventually. Whether it's next week or fifty years from now, it's going to happen--we're always in a foxhole in this life. If someone told me I had a month left, I would not suddenly convert to any religion. I would, however, quit my job and eat whatever I wanted to. :-)

I am Christian and I would cry because I would be leaving those I love. I would pray and prepare myself. I would think about seeing my best friend ( Mother) my brother and others I love who have passed on. I might even get a little excited about it all.
I think my feelings would be different than a atheists.

I don't fear death, but I would like to live a little longer. I have a wife I love dearly (and would like to continue loving), friends and family that would be grieve for me not being there, and there is a lot of beer here that needs to be drunk.
But since I'm going to Heaven when I die, maybe they'll have beer there too.

I imagine the god-believers spending the remaining time praying, while the atheists are putting their affairs in order.

I also wonder why they're so desperate to go to hospitals when they're sick.
They should think of it as "god's calling us, why bother staying on earth struggling to live?"
