Hm. Is it a religious school and are the others wearing symbols of the school's religion? In that case there's not much your friend can do. But if your school is nonreligious he does have a point and may choose to take it higher. Did they give any reason? It does sound like simple religious discrimination to me though. If he doesn't mind a conflict with the school (and that is something to consider) I think he should send a formal complaint to the principal. I'm sure the principal would give in then (if the school is nonreligious), I don't think there is any western jurisdiction where this kind of thing would hold up.

That's religious discrimination and you should make a big deal about it. You should be allowed to express your religion in whatever non-harmful way you want. A piece of jewelry isn't more distracting than another so they can't use that excuse. Get your parents involved. They have to let you wear a pentagram if they let others wear crosses or stars of David, etc.

Why was it taken away? If they allow other symbols of worship, by law they need to allow the pentacle. Call the ACLU!

Go to the board of education.Take it to the next level. Then go to a lawyer. You have a right to your religious symbols the same as others.

Yes, it is an unfair application of policy. I advise your friend to seek legal advice from the ACLU.
Either your school prohibits all religious symbolism or permits all religious symbolism.

When you are so fragile that you think that an innocent symbol can destroy your life then you have to remove it where ever you can. Its that they cannot funtion with any other symbol around them. That is why they are christians they have to have some one else tell them what is right or wrong they cannot think for themselves.

bearing a symbol is both a freedom of expression and/or an expression of religion. if one is allowed, then so should they all. begin with the first level up in authority and make your case, then move up the heirarchy, if unsuccessful, until someone realizes the hypocrisy and illegality of their actions.

fight it.
that is complete BS.
i know if someone tried to take my pentagram ring, they would have to take my finger.
tell him to start by telling them the difference between a pentacle and a pentagram.
then have him claim religion discrimination. and threaten to take legal action. that should get them moving to rectify the situation.
good luck to him.

Depends on why they took it away and where you go to school. If you go to a christian school, then they are within their right. On the other hand if you go to a government school, then I would definitely fight it. Contacting the ACLU wouldn't be a bad idea in that situation.
But definitely fight it if you are in a position to.

Of course you can walk around with a Cross represnting jesus and christinaity (god knows how many people where killed in the name of god right?)
What your school did is wrong, because the pentacle has a lot of different symbologies. It dosen't necessarily represent "wiccan" or "gothic".
