You would have to check by department. There are 8, 12 hour, steady shifts, and rotating.

It varies by department. Some work 8 or 12 hour rotating shifts while others work permanent 8 or 12 hour shifts. For example my father worked rotating 8 hour shifts while a friend of mine who works for a different department works permanent 8 hour midnight shifts.

Most of them work 12 hour shifts, and all shifts according to the needs of the dept.

About 80% of the agencies in Wisconsin work 12 hour shifts. The three most popular are 3 on/3off, 4on/4off, and 2-2-3 (First week, 2on, 2 off, 3on; second week 2off, 2on, 3off).

The most popular 8 hour shifts are 6 on/2 off and 6 on/3 off.

We work 2-2-3, I like it because you get every other weekend off, and it is always three days, Fri,Sat,Sun.

Varies by department. We work five 8 hour shifts, and rotate (days, afternoons, midnights) every 28 days.

What type of schedule officers work depends mostly on what police department they work for. Some officers have to work rotating shifts. Shift hours and how often you rotate can vary. For example, some officers rotate every week, some every 2 week, and some every month. Some officers work 8 hour shift, some work 10 hour shifts, and some work 12 hour shifts. Some officers work steady shifts. Some officers have steady days off, and some don't. Most officers have to often work midnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.
