Interior fire resistance requirements have improved, emergency egress has been enhanced, engines have gotten more powerful, fuel efficient and quiet.

Technology in general has been vastly improved in the areas of controlling all systems, navigation and instrumentation. Electronics has fed the revolution beyond measure - none of these improvements would be possible without both enhanced means of design on the ground by computer methodology and on the aircraft itself for myriad purposes.

Maintenance has gotten easier and is more resistant to human error on newer airplanes since that time.

The old standard Civil Air Regulations were still in place until the release of the Federal Aviation Regulations of 1965, so the build standards in place were largely those perfected in the WWII era. The old standards are actually quite effective and many older airplanes continue in service quite safely under them. But the updated FARs have been updated many times to take advantage of lessons learned and better technologies, so what was good is now better in many ways - as described in brief above.

Mostly what everyone else said. The most major thing is probably the electronics and the advances in avionics. Also, believe it or not, as loud as jet engines today are, they were twice as loud in the 60's. They've also become more powerful and fuel efficient as others have mentioned. Obviously all the security stuff has changed and also the planes have become much safer. That's all I can think of for now. Hope it helped.

Stewardesses, er, I mean, flight attendants have gotten older.
Braniff airlines stewardesses in the '60s wore miniskirts.

Food is better, though still not great, unless yer in business or first class.

TV/movies are better.
