Who agrees that it is sometimes the only solution in a given area for the problems ?

NOT who doesn't agree and why. I want to hear from people who have personal experience. I don't think its any paticular breeds fault. I don't believe that any breed is more likely to do this or that. But sometimes thats the breed in an area that is causing the problems

yes, sometimes one breed casues more problems than others in an area. Not becasue of its breed, but becasue of its growing popularity. There are more of that breed with wrong people. Not that that breed is viscious and should be banned, but rather their are a lot of aggressive dogs, becasue of owners, of a paticular breed in some cases.

true, but it gives the authorities the power to remove the problem dog. If drugs were legal, cops couldn't so anything to stop the problem, thats why they are illegal. you just gonna find something to argue about no matter what?

so the animal shelter should take dogs, that have attacked people or other animals and adopt them out, and somehow figure out a way to ensure they go to the right homes? and what about when that dog attacks again, and the shelter gets sued for adopting out an animal they know has attacked You have any idea how unreasonable that is. No way it could be done. imagine the amount of resources the shelter would need. its just not realistic

I know this! this is not what I'm asking about. I think that aspect is sad, but that BSL is needed sometimes, becasue its the only way the authorities can try to control the situaution

I think that every dog acts based upon its owners and it own personality. I've seen some of the sweetest rotts and pits.
In my city there have been a ton of pit attacks on people and animals in the last year. I don't think it has anything to do with the breed. Its just a popular breed in this area with irresponsible owners. Its sad, but BSL is in effect in my area, and I think its really the only way to control the situation, but I don't think its the breeds fault

I don't think there should be any breed specific laws or breed bans. I truly believe if animal abuse were a felony that had a prison sentence and a huge fine and negligence got a huge fine then there would be far fewer incidents. People get off too easy with fines below $100.00 and a few hours of community service in most places when found to be abusive or negligent to animals. It's not till the dog jumps the fence and mauls someone that everyone jumps to solve the problem.

BSL's are a knee jerk reaction. They should punish the deed, not punish the breed. All BSL's do is cause the wrong people to change the breed of dog they have. Then that breed gets banned and they go to another breed. Pretty soon all you will be able to have is the little ankle biters.
BSL's only punish the people who obey the laws.

It has been shown time and time again to be counterproductive and open to abuse. The best way (IMO) to fight this nonsense is to support The American Dog Owners Association. Their website has a lot of useful info too: adoa.org

So many people just lack knowledge on the subject and jump onto what appears to be the easy solution.

EDIT: I think certain people who answer questions in Yahoo! Answers should not be allowed to reproduce (lol).

SOME BREEDS ARE MORE LIKELY TO TURN ON YOU. CERTAIN BREEDS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO REPRODUCE AND SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED IN APTs.
