See if your local library wants them. If not see the Salvation Army or local thrift store. You could also put on a yard sale with stuff your family/friends don't want anymore, and see if you can sell the books. If some don't sell then take them to the library or thrift store.

Charity shop, Salvation Army, used book store, senior centre (or youth centre or ??? depending on the type), prisons, homeless/low-income drop-ins, women's shelters, collections for 3rd world countries, etc. Any place that has more people than funds.
A local church has an giant annual book sale for two weeks every autumn to raise money for Christian Aid. Is there anything like that around you?
And then there are the on-line options like book swaps (you list your books and anyone who's interested in one or more contacts you via the site.
Who would you like to be helped by your books?

Once a year our local library has a used book sale and ask for donations. If you don't have such a thing donate them to the Salvation Army

NO! Don't throw them out. You can donate them to a library, the salvation army, or you can take them to your local bookstore and they will sometimes give you money or you can get a few books in exchange of them. lol I love books, they're my friends. lol :D Happy New Year

Give them to a Library, Used Bookstore, or a friend you know wants them. No reason to throw them away when someone else can enjoy them.

In most places there is a used bookstore about. Take your books there. They will give you store credit to get a few books that you want to read now.
