Or did you agree to have children because your wife wanted children?

I am curious because too many of my husband's buddies admitted they never wanted children! They are jealous of my husband. They say he's "lucky" because he has no kids!

BoSox27, I agree with your comment, "...I'm blessed to have my children, and they don't need anyone who doesn't feel the same way." I feel for the children! Why do men get married if they don't want kids?? 99% of women want kids!

I have never been particularly interested in having children and/or being a father. My wife kept pushing me for a lot of years during our 30s, but I wouldn't budge on that one...having kids would be the only decision in life I couldn't undo. I think my wife wanted them because that what was "expected" - get married and have kids. I think if we really wanted them - we would have had them years ago...the fact that we were pushing 40 and never children spoke volumes all by itself. So, for me, not having any kids was definitely the right thing to do. I love my life as it is and I feel fortunate that I did not follow many of my friends just because having kids was what our culture and society "expected" of me.

And BTW, having children is not the only reason to get married. First and foremost is a loving relationship with one's spouse. We are fortunate in that we are able participate in a lot of volunteer activities in our community, care for elderly parents, have a career, take some nice vacations and have the ability to put some money away in the bank at the same time. So, for us it works.

In my experience I always said I didn't want kids. I HATED KIDS! Man, no kids for me. Then I had one....what a surprise. I am so excited about being a father now. Each new thing my boy does/learns seems so cool to me. Looking back I'd say that it wasn't that I really didn't want kids, I was just scared.

Well, I'll answer on behalf of my husband. Our first son was mutual - really! We both wanted one; I wouldn't pressure him to have a child he didn't want.
I'm currently pregnant with Baby #2, and it was his idea for the most part. Don't get me wrong - I'm just as happy as he is. But he really wanted our son to have a sibling.
If my husband ever said something like that, I'd throw him out. I'm blessed to have my children, and they don't need anyone who doesn't feel the same way.

my hubby did not care if we had kids, until we had our first son. i think he loves our son more than he loves me (which is only right!!) We just had our second baby, which he says is the last, but i catch him slipping up now and again saying
'the next time we have a kid etc etc"!!

He would never, ever change things, and feels sorry for our childless friends!

My guyfriend didn't want children when he had them. The first (in high school) was the result of sabotage (she poked a hole in the condom). The second was foolishness on both their parts. He was really happy about the last one and looking forward to the next.
