you find this special circumstance to be curious?

Funny how we will NOT explain something that is inconvenient or in contradiction to OUR beliefs,

How do you reason with this when it comes to a diety, God or Gods?

Thank you for your answers.
I believe that she was speaking of inanimate objects at the time, she was trying to teach me this lesson.

My mother taught me that real love was not dependent on acceptance or rejection by the other person, that if I loved, really loved, it was a force unique unto itself.
As far as God goes, His love for me or you is not dependent on my or your acceptance or rejection either. Any that say it is have no real understanding & possibly are projecting their own emotions onto their concept of God.

I find this a sad statement. Love towards everyone and everything is an attitude that would really change this world around.

You say "we will not explain something that is inconvenient or in contradition to our belief". I do not do that, do you?

We have to have an open mind on everything and everyone.
Unfortunately you will find that this statement is correct when it comes to organized religions, of Christianity and other faiths. However, there are people in all religions that are open to listening to anothers beliefs, even though they may not accept those beliefs. Which is O.K. We have to listen to learn. We have to question to learn. Many do not think it is necessary to learn anymore than they know already, which is very sad. We will not be out of questions, no matter how many we ask. "INconvenient Truth" does not only relate to the change in the weather, but to religions as well.

A spider does not love me back, but I love all nature. Many people will not love me back, but I send them love.

Even if you are in a relationship, where the other half, does not love you, you can still love them from afar, and send them love. If we cut off love to certain people, certain living creatures, certain religions, we will be cutting off a lot.

Love everyone and everything, and you yourself will gain more peace and love for yourself.

Somehow, it would be shocking and unacceptible for me to think of God as a malevolent, capricious and jealous being, worse than some humans. I just could not accept it. I guess that is why the idea of Karma is so appealing to a lot of people. It takes the burden of responsibility off of God's shoulders and places it back on yours.
Does God love us? I honestly don't know the answer to that, because I can't really know anything about God. It's just my belief that probably God does.

I love fried chicken with apple sauce. I doubt it loves me back.
I think your mom was wise but misquoted (or misquoting)

You should not love that what does not love you back. In other words: Do not squander your love. It is actually in the bible. Pearls before swines is often used in this context.

Now to your point; You can't explain that which you do not understand. In science they even start with saying "I don't know" Anybody that says they know....what ever and claim to be scientists are actually lying twice. They don't KNOW and thus can't be scientists as they only theorize.

I believe there is a God. I believe I can never understand what he/she is. I can never say I KNOW God nor know the road laid out for me. Can not explain anything about it except my certain belief in God.

Not much sense in reasoning about it then is there?

I wish I could follow that piece of wisdom: my life would be so much easier. But I enjoy challenges and that is exactly what energises and empowers me, to obtain what seemed nearly impossible.
About religiosity, it is clear that all religions promise huge rewards to those that follow their god(s) wishes however whimsical they can be. I suppose there is a balance between punishment and reward to make people keep on going and feeling special and "loved" by their deities.
Take care! Any other tips from your mum’s?

She was misinformed. Love is unrelated to receiving anything. What she believed to be love is rather the ego's 'attachment' to doing/getting. We are culturally conditioned to believe this.

God/Reality is responsive to the contents of consciousness, which is why some people personify a deity that expects to be loved/worshipped. Rather WHAT we love is our essential nature and - if pure/unconflicted - is a powerful causative force which reality mirrors.

I find that interesting, but I would say that you can love someone that doesn't love you back, just as long as you let that someone know you love them.

I disagree with Mom :-)

The only way I know my love is true...
Is when it's not reciprocated...
Yet I still love strong...

True people 'do'...
Regardless of reciprocation...

They give, to give.
They help, to help.
They love, to love...
