If everyone tells you what happens in the book, where's the enjoyment of reading it?

The "book" is a trilogy - 3 books. In none of them do they attack religion or God.

If you are interested in religious writings, it is an interesting book to read. They do indirectly reference quite a number of religious writings and religious beliefs. Many of them are within the nominal christian arena, some of them from other major religions. Some of writings and teachings are controversial among different groups within several religions.

The movie does invite thought on the nature of political power, and the exercise of control over people's thought and action. The movie is quite critical of some ways that political power is manifested and manipulated. (I suspect that is what is most offensive to people who condemn the book.)

So, is the book "bad" or not?
If you believe that people should do as they are told, not question authority, and not engage in critical thinking or objective analysis - then the book is very bad. Very bad, indeed.

Otherwise, you should read the book to find out if you think it is good, or not.

Did you know that you misspelled Compass? And that the spelling you chose is a rather unfortunate typo?

I thought that it was an okay fantasy movie. Not great.

It is the first part of a trilogy. God apparently gets killed in another part of the series.

The reason why you probably didn't think there was anything religious in the movie is because most people are unaware of the 'religious' implications of what is said. But it is a fantasy movie. So, I didn't take it too serious.

Again, here is the definition of 'Magisterium',

I haven't read the books, but I have read that the leader of the Church is a dictator who goes by the title of God. I believe the children kill him at the end of the third book.

There is more about god in the later books. Just read them if you want to find out what happens, if you're going to read them anyway I don't see any reason to ask people on here...

And I don't see any reason it is "bad". It is anti-religion, yes, but it's only fiction. I can safely say the bible is anti-atheism and christians claim it to be true. Should we ban the bible and claim it is bad because it goes against the views of atheists?

I've only seen the movie but I was under the impression the Church in the "Golden Compas" was based on the the Mideval period as it was very corupt whith little things going on like the inquasition and Popes like Alexander VI who wan't exactly the worlds best role modle.

The Golden Compass is just the first book in the trilogy, next is The Subtle Knife and then The Amber Spyglass.

It is the author's hope to "kill god" in the minds of his audience of children.

The christian faith is so weak they are terrified works of fiction could be true. That is why they are so scared of atheists and science!!!!!

Of course atheists and other religions all recognize and enjoy many types of fiction and do not have to be scared it might challenge their beliefs!!!!!
