or girls as young as 9, Iran has established a system of legalized prostitution, through the practice of "sigheh" or "temporary marriages," by which a mullah arranges a "legal union" between a man and a girl (some as young as nine years old) for a fee. The so-called marriage can last as short as one hour.

"Nikāḥu’l-Mut‘ah, Nikah el Mut'a (Arabic: نكاح المتعة, also Nikah Mut‘ah literally, marriage[1] for pleasure[2]), or sigheh, is a fixed-time marriage which, according to the Usuli Shia schools of Shari‘a (Islamic law), is a marriage with a preset duration, after which the marriage is automatically dissolved. It is the second form of Islamic marriage, described in the Qur'an (4:24). However, it is regarded as haram (prohibited) by Sunnis. This is a highly controversial fiqh topic; Sunnis and Shi‘a hold diametrically opposed views on its permissibility. For a specifically Sunni type of marriage, see Nikah Misyar."

Other people call it paedophilia if it concerned use of a child for sex .... prostitution if it concerned adult women .. .. etc.

A very long time ago.. Muhammed gave permission to his "troops " who were upset they had NO wives around to have sex with while they were out in the field and who complained to Muhammed ..... permission to give a woman a payment of somekind... even just a bit of cloth .. .. to use her for sex while calling it "temporary marriage"... Other cultures call it PROSTITUTION. I noticed as I read the hadiths..that nowhere did it say the women were ASKED for permission to be used as prostitutes.

Read Bukhari. In fact.. I wish ALL muslims would read bukhari.. I keep seeing Muslims say his are the most respected hadiths ..yet I am amazed that most Ilsamists do not even know what Bukhari had recorded!

NO debra.. it is not a troll thing! It is factual.

Yes, this is a common practice in the middle east (I lived there for over almost two years).

Not news really, just a loophole created by man, to overcome rules imposed by a man-made religion.

Not unique to islam either, all religions (all men) make excuses and justify their own actions as okay while bending and breaking the rules.

So you are saying this because Islam is a hot topic? This is not new, what about Thailand and under age prostitutes? You need to research, there's a great documentary called "Born into Brothels" it follows the life of many childhood prostitutes. You do realize that parts of Eurasia they actually have kids and reproduce strictly to sell their kids in brothels. Don't take random facts with 'hot topic' words just to spawn more hatred. There's far too much hatred in this world already.

it's a practice that goes on in most Islamic countries, usually between consenting adults but like everywhere else $$$ can buy anything or anyone even in a 'religious' country like Iran.

Well, I don't doubt it at all.
Look at the flip side-it is unlawful for an unmarried Muslim man to have sex with a woman.
It is not unlawful for him to have sex with 'something' else.
Go figure!

Yeah, but it's still okay, because gay people aren't allowed to do it. Got to protect the sanctity of marriage, don't you know!

This is not allowed in Islam. It is not Islamic. I would call it
paganism. There are very few Iranians who do that. Majority do not believe in this temporary marriage.
