I have got both a male and female kitten. They are brother and sister and both 7 months now.

I find the male cat is more active and will initiate playing first.

The female cat is more reserved and aloof and although she loves to play outdoors and explore quite some distance she has to be tempted into playing chasing games but she has always been the shy one since we got them.

If it is your first time owning a cat then I would recommend you go for whichever you may prefer most. Having said that if you can do it is well worth getting two kittens so they have each other to play with.

kittens are kittens regardless of sex. They will tear up stuff, romp around endlessly, and wear you out with their high energy levels. The differences aren't noticeable until adulthood. I have had cats all of my life and currently have 3 and although I am sure some people will disagree with me here's what I noticed. Female cats, as adults, tend to be more "princess" like. She will most likely be glued to you and won't really like others holding/petting her. She won't be very playful but more of a lap cat.....and VERY demanding. Sometimes, it seems like Missy (my adult female) is more demanding then a child! Male cats tend to be the opposite. They will love you of course but they tend to cuddle for 20 minutes or so and wander away. They also tend to be a bit more playful as adults. They also seem to have less seclusive loyalty. In other words, they will rub on guests and take attention from anyone. One serious thing to consider is if you plan to get another cat in the life span of this one. If so, a female may get along much better with the new cat as males tend to be more territorial. Though I have heard that females don't get along with other females. I have 2 males and a female and the males are at each other often while the female could care less.....maybe the same would happen with 2 females....not sure but I have seen it more often with the males fighting. Hope this helps

I have one of each but both are spayed I found that the female cat was the easiest to handle. I find that male cats like to wonder lots and female don't go as far. I have had male cats that have ran away, went wild and get into lots of fights. If I ever got another kitten it would be a female cat. I have had my female cat for 16 years and I had no trouble with her I have had lots of male cats and my male cat I have is only 2 years old and i have had more trouble with him than her.

Both are loving the problem with males is they spray evrywhere, so if you dont want to find your laundry or bedding smelling get the cat neutered, as a kitten if you wait it may not stop this. Females do scratch more than males and may get pregnant, get her front claws removed and have her spayed. I like the females cause they seem to be more apt to hunt after fixed. Male's get to lazy.

The first thing I would say is..........when you go to get your kitten sit down on the floor. All of the kittens will, usually, come and explore you. The one to take home is the one that comes back to you or stays with you..irrespective of gender. I would also recommend that whichever gender you end up with you have neutrered............females to avoid prengnacies and males because neutreted toms are kinder and don't tend to 'spray' to mark out his territory.
The first cat I had...I greeted with the words...hello ugly....but she turned into a lovely looking adult cat and stayed with me for 18 years until she died.
Ultimately.......the cat choses you, not the other way around.

Male cats are better. They are more playful, more affectionate, and happier. Every girl cats we ever had hated us. But girl cats stay home more and they don't spray. If you get a boy cat get him fixed to hopefully keep him from spraying.

My wife and I prefer male cats over female cats. Others will disagree, but we find the male cats to be calmer, less moody and less erratic.
