I think it is about the same.
I have found that most of the people who told me to wait lost it before age 16.
Like my dad who lost it at 12 and my mom who was raped at 8. (this was in the 60s).
I lost it at 20, but my sister lost it at 14 (this was in the 90s).

No, I think that's about the way it's been, certainly for the last 15 - 20 years. When I was at school I was the last of my friends as I was almost 17. All my friends were about 14-15 though some were 13. Waiting's fine. Everyone's different. My first was with a a guy I'd been with for 4 months and I was glad to have waited.

I'm in the US but its the same way here. You are right, the age people are having sex is getting younger & younger. I am 23 & I remember when I was in high school (not that long ago!!) girls were still virgins until about 16 or 17, but now 12 year olds are having sex and 13 year olds are pregnant. It's actually really scary to think about, because if this trend continues, in a few years 8 and 9 year olds will be attempting sexual acts.

All you friends SAY they've lost virginity, doesn't mean they all actually have!
The average age has actually gone up considerably in the last few centuries in fairness. Once upon a time, street whores started work at 7 or 8yrs old - as soon as they were considered big enough to handle it.
People also married frequently at 14 or 15 years old until it was made illegal in the early 20th century and you had to be 16 with parental consent.
People SAY that sex is happening younger and younger and that girls grow up too fast but actually we're a very immature generation! We work much later than previous generations too which is why we wind up out getting drunk on the streets in all honesty - we have nothing more productive to do!
The only reason there are more single Mums these days is because we don't get sent off to convents anymore or made to pass our kids off as our siblings to the neighbours!!!

Well I'm 14 and I only know of a couple of girls in my year who have had sex I think the average age where i live is 16.
Don't get pressured into having sex just because your friends have I'm glad you want to wait till you have found someone you love.
Hope This Helps
Where abouts do you live in the UK?

You're right, it is going down but it's not a good thing.
You sound like a clever girl, 14 is too young to be losing your virginity. It's better to wait til you find the right person coz, although now you may just want to be popular because of it, when you're older you'll regret it.
I think girls are wanting to grow up too fast, acting 20 when they're 13.
It shouldn't matter wat the "average" age is anyway.
It should be something you do for yourself, not so that anyone else can judge you. Do it when you feel confident that it's right.

Well, I'm not sure about the UK, but most definitely in the United States. Girls here feel like it's more and more important to lose their virginity. I don't know why, but maybe they think it's cool? It's not. I'm waiting too and I don't understand how anyone could risk getting pregnant or getting a STD this young. I am 14 and in the US.

Sweetie!!! Its like that in America too. I lost my virginity at 17 of course i am 21 now, I do regret it. But there are people when i was 17, losing their virginity at 14 even younger. Its not just like that in the UK and im sure its not just like that in America either Im sure its like that in other countries too. If there was good parenting from everywhere this wouldnt be a problem but you know what parents in america dont believe in spanking the kids butt if they do something wrong, if someone spanks a kid social services is called on the parent. Its not just America and its not just the uk either, its probably like this everywhere.

It is going way down, and I think it's horrible. Some people are in such a hurry to grow up nowadays.
A lot of people I know, including some of my friends, lost theirs in their early teens. A few were in relationships but most of them were just drunk encounters with strangers. It's pathetic, really. Girls are seeing their virginity as something they need to get rid of as soon as possible.
By the way, I'm 17, also in the UK, and I'm waiting until I'm in a relationship with someone. I'm not going to lose it just for the sake of losing it!

it definately is. it's a sad situation because most of these young people rushing out to lose their virginity are still children. not to mention the STI breeding ground their opening up.
i remember when i was 13 my best friend lost her virginity to a guy she'd met in an under 18s club event in some woods.
it's good that you're waiting until you're older. you'll get a better experience that way.
