lol You go, girl!
I agree too. Not only was it NOT sacrilegious in any way, it was too boring and badly written to be blasphemous.
And the word "daemon" originally just mean soul, not "devil" the way it does today.
So I'm with you: watta yawn-fest.
I suspect somebody in The Golden Compass PR dept. called up the guy at the League of Catholic Voters and got some free publicity out of him.

I loved the books, and I liked the movie, though I thought it was a bit slow-paced for a children's movie. I also thought the duel between the armoured bears was too violent for kids, and the battle scenes were too graphic. (My son disagreed.) But I loved the characters Lee Scoresby and Iorek Byrneson, and I thought the special effects that created the daemons and the bears were remarkably convincing.
The northern scenery, too, was absolutely spectacular, as were the wide-angle aerial shots of Lyra's London.
I found it totally worth what I paid to see it (twice), and after watching the movie, my partner is now reading the book.

I thought it was a very average movie, but after "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, it's going to be a while before anyone can make a special-effects-heavy fantasy movie that doesn't pale in comparison. I disagree about Dakota Blue Richards, though...she was the only personality the movie had (certainly more than the bland "Narnia" cast).

The Golden Compass was an atheist movie based on an atheist book by the same name. There are many instances of them mocking the Catholic faith in that movie. For example, the Magestirium is the Catholic teaching authority of the Church. In that movie the "bad guys " were called the Magestirium.
Personally the movie was pathetic. It Sucked!!!

The Roman Catholic Church's inner workings were upset about it. They pulled their strings and even caused many Protestant churches to quibble about it. I don't go along with the bandwagon, so I am one Christian who saw the movie.
"The Magisterium" is by definition The Roman Catholic Church. And they were in the movie the ruthless, controlling, evil, religious / political organization in the movie. But I see the Roman Catholic Church as the ruthless, controlling, evil, religious / political organization in the real world. Not only that, but they were the ruthless, controlling, evil, political/ religious force that attempted to control the minds of the millions of people who go to see movies.
I agree with you, it is VERY unfortunate that out of all possible words to place on the spirits of men, Pullman decided to name them 'demons'. I think that it shows that the man is not as thoughtful as he could have been. In my frame of reference, by naming them 'demons' he might as well have called them the 'Adolf Hitlers'. I did not find that very comfortable to me, and I never got used to it.
Magisterium
- noun Roman Catholic Church.
the authority and power of the church to teach religious truth.

I was going to see it because I thought it looked like an interesting story, but then some close friends saw it and said to wait until it came out on DVD, that it wasn't worth the ticket price.
I guess so much effort was made to make it unoffensive, that it really effected the quality of the movie.

I saw it, the movie was a waste of a good afternoon, demons as your soul, and the magestrium having all power, the only good part was seeing two fake polar bears battle, a compass tells truth, For me God is truth and its revealed i the bible, but the movie did suck.

Haven't seen it. I haven't read the books yet and I want to read them before seeing the movie. I've heard the books are way better anyway.
