The details depend upon which type of Buddhism you are looking at. Basically there is no soul, no self, but we are a continuous chain of events that does not break with death, but continues on to either rebirth or Nirvana. Are karma attaches to this causal chain of events and affects the rebirth. Deepak Chopra explains this with very good examples, I can email them to you if you wish.

Reincarnation and rebirth aren't exactly the same things.

hi i am no buddist but i am learning about them at school and about what there believe what happens to their soul after death. They believe that there is life after death and there have even been ture stories which proves this to be true. A young girl, about 13, remembers being a different person, where they lived in this past life and the whole family and even how she died. when scientists looked at recordes they found that her story was an exact match to a young man just down the road from where she is now living. tehy believe that when you die your spirit comes back but in anothers body.
