Akash i.e. space is manfested first and time later. akash is the space manifested by shakti in herself.... to start manifesting....akash means Being of the Shakti

Akaash is the word, Akaash is the white screen on which film would be projected.

First manifested is Chidakaash or the space in the Causal world where thought takes birth

Chidakaash manifests as manakaash on which thought takes form and names

BahirAkaash is when the names and forms are projected on the grossest level of manifestation.

BahirAkaash is physical world or "A" of aum of Vaikhari of Shabd Brahmm

Manas-Akaash is astral world or "U" of aum and Madhyama

Chida-akaash is causal world or "M" of aum and Pashyanti

We see physical things in BahirAkash
We see dreams in Manas akash
We feel thought in original form in Chidakaash

In various stages of Dhyana we shift our consciousness from Bahir-akaash to Manas-akaash and then to Chidakash

Bahir akash shows us the physical manifestations

Manas akash shows us the thoughts in subtle forms

Chidakash shows us visions of Devi Bhagwati

Beyond chidakash is Para Shakti or the ardha Matra of aum

Aumm

EDIT: Thanks radhakrishanan ji..for asking such deep and beautiful questions. ...which force me to sit down think and then reply...

I dont know what the scriptures say about these akashaas..but from my practical experience i can say that these akashaas are not real... but are seen by the mind (Manas) depending upon its vibrations.

when the vibrations are at the grossest levels we see the Bahir-akash...the physical ether where we see the physically manifested things.

The subtler the mind becomes, it sees other akashas...so for Bahirakaash the other two are subtler...for manasakaash bahir is gross and chidakash is subtler.

for chidakash both are gross, only difference is degree.

As i wrote above Bahir akaash is physical manifestation
manas akash is astral manifestation and is in mind
and chidakaash is causal manifestation and is in chitta

donno how far it matches with scriptures

Chidakasha refers to chit, the Intellect, being as empty space.
Akasha( or as you say, bahirakaha) is the sky being an empty space.Manokasha is mind being empty space - all these are different dimension of being in ideal state.Yes, an ideal state because, when we empty our self and remain as empty space in body, mind and intellect, the Divinity enters/unfolds,we become spiritual beings.Shankaracharya brings the discussion on these spaces brilliantly.

Manas – The thinking mind and seat of feelings and emotions
Chitta – Consciousness, which includes the memory and subliminal tendencies to like or dislike.
Bahir -- external

"Chidaakash" I can say about other two I am not so sure
As in "Chidakaash maakash vaasam bhajeham" of Rudrashatak- it means "chetan aakashrup"(in hindi) and the one who wears "aakash" as the garment

Aakashrup means in the form of aakash
chetan- awareness or consciousness

I haven't studied Sanskrit yet. Have you tried looking it up for yourself? IE has a link to research, where you can use the Encarta Encyclopedia and other materials.

They are three items found on the menu of a Hindu restaurant. Aakashas is Hindu for "entrees".
Addendum; Sorry didn't mean to offend. Too much "bubbly" yesterday. But I will research.
