And these signs shall follow them that believe; in my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Mark 16:17-18 (KJV)

Now what the heck does this mean!! I consider myself a very strong Christian who was deep love for my Lord and Saviour but I promise you I probably wont be drinking poison anytime soon nor picking up a poisonous snake!! Please only Christian related answers (just no Christian bashing). I received this scripture from another question I asked.. really mind boggled me. Thanks!!

Hi there ,
you know this is one of those verses that are misused by what I call whacky extremists.
they take one versee and build their whole doctrine on it .But to do so they have to kick out the truth.
these miracles were for the apostles and others sent out in that time frame to help the the unbelievers come to belief.
it is not a description of the believer or the church as a whole.
right division of the word.
check verse with verse.
always read several verses above and several below a selected verse in order to not contract verse-itis.
I saw this answer earlier and it made me groan.

Some people take these things too literally. It doesn't mean you should start shaking snakes or anything like that. It means that your faith should be strong enough that you believe ( if you did for some reason ) that God will help you get through it. If I were to drink something deadly, the first thing I'd do is get to a doctor. You have to have a little common sense to go along with your faith. No point in messing up just because you can.

Actually there is strong evidence that shows Mark 16:9 thru the end were not part of the original writings and were added later.

Christians are commanded not to test the Lord, which these practices would be doing.

You should read the entire chapter, specifically the few preceeding verses and verses 19-20 as well to get the entire context of the scripture.

17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

you can find it in Act of our apostolic fathers .

ONLY that time...the apostles we able to work MANY
miracles from the gift Jesus gave them...
