It is a Sunnah or Way of Lifestyle of the Holy Messenger to keep beards. I belive the Hanafi sect says it is wajib/mandatory (?) to keep a beard, while the Shafii's say it is only sunnat (good but not mandatory)

Salam No in line with hadith having a beard isn't fard or necessary it is merely stated in Islam for making in easy terms a particular visual attraction as Muslim guy. we does no longer have sin if we don't look after beards. yet donning hijab for grown up Muslim woman is important based on the Qur'an 33:fifty 9 confident i do agree that donning beard is displaying that the appropriate individual love Islam, yet now there are various non Muslim men who look after beards too.

Indeed, it is a Sunnah. It is not obligatory. But, since it is preferable, that is why a lot of men grow beards. There is also another interesting social twist to this, in general, having a beard is regarded as more 'masculine" and of course most men want to be perceived that way.

By the way, there are some religious scholars who claim that growing a beard is a must. Religion can be interepreted in many different ways, main stream islam recognizes it as a sunnah only, but u will get some people out there that claim it is a fard.

I just want to say that I think it is interesting that people think shaving it is imitating Christians and Jews....it might be that way now...but back in the day Jewish men and Christian men had beards. In the Orthodox Church they still have to grow them (at least priests and bishops etc have to grow them) but Catholics stopped doing that along time ago.

I thought it wasn't fard...IDK...my husband can't really grow one anyway. He would have spots of hair if he did (he's tried it). lol :)
