I purchased an 18kt gold plated bracelet for my daughter for Xmas and it turns her wrist green every time she wears it. I have emailed the seller and advised that I was not happy with quality of item and they replied with "return it if you are not happy." My daughter loves this bracelet and doesn't want to return it but would like her wrist to stop turning green. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Coat the inside of the bracelet with clear varnish

It is due to the copper content in the bracelet. When the copper gets in contact with your daughters skin, the salt in her body causes a chemical reaction that turns her skin green. Copper will natirally "green" over time if left in the environment. Look at the Statue of Liberty, for example.

The quality of the bracelet is not good and it should be returned.

The green stains are probably the result of deposits of chelated copper, although silver can, in rare cases, also cause a green skin reaction. Your daughter is apparantly sensitive to the metal which underlies the plating. The stains won't harm her but it can be unattractive. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do other than live with it or return the bracelet.

It may be that the bracelet is not high quality. Or it could be that your daughter is anemic. I was very anemic when I was pregnant and my gold wedding ring was always turning my finger green (it had never done that before). Talk to your doctor and get a test done. For me, taking iron supplements solved the "green" problem!

That's because it has a high nickel content which turns the skin green. There's really nothing you can do about it, I would return it if you paid good money for it- it's not the best of quality.

obviously, it's not pure gold. seems like your daughter is having an allergic reaction to the chemical components used when manufacturing this bracelet. best to get your money refunded.

Believe it or not, years ago I had a pair of eyeglasses that did that to my face! I coated it with clear nail polish and that helped a lot. You do have to re-coat every few months.
