In Ecclesiastes 3:11 it says: "Even time indefinite he has put in their heart..." which, put simply, means that humans have the desire to live forever and have the knowledge of time. But do animals have the desire to live forever?

No.

So, how do you reason that humans developed this desire if we are evolved from apes, who do not have this desire?

So what you're asking is, 'If we evolved from other creatures, why aren't we exactly the same as other creatures in every way?'
Your answer is simply the first part of your question. Because we have evolved. Specifically we have evolved a great deal in the area of imagination. Most animals are not capable of comprehending something fictional like immortality.

In any case, you'll find that most animals instinctively try to preserve their own life. Just because they don't think inventing and then praying to an imaginary being is the best way to go about it doesn't mean they don't desire immortality. Presumably those animals that understand the idea of immortality do indeed desire it. And even those animals that are incapable of understanding the idea of immortality are not known for committing suicide or wilfully allowing themselves to die.

Who said humans have a desire to live forever? All animals have a drive to survive, just like humans, but that does not translate into a desire to live forever. I've known many people that were sick of living and just wanted to end their lives, either because of physical suffering/disease, or emotional trauma. Your original premise is wrong, and back it up with a quote from a fairy tale does nothing to improve it.

It never ceases to amaze me with regard to the unlimited amount of ignorance that can be transferred through unthinking people such as the person who asked this thread's question.

Has no one heard of Koko the gorilla? How is it that this ape has been communicating via sign language for over 20 years (she's around 35 years old) yet ignorance still abounds that she can "talk" with humans?

Well, here's some reality for ignorant evangelical bible thumping christians who BELIEVE that ONLY humans can communicate and understand the future.

The reality is we are not alone.

Koko can sign over 1000 words and understands time, the future and death. Koko also teaches other gorillas how to communicate with humans.

Of course, since the bible says that this can't occur, it hasn't even though it has.

When is the last time you chatted with an ape? How do you know what they think?

Since we are not the same species as other primates, but simply share a common ancestor, it goes to show that of course we would not be exactly the same.

Somehow with our evolving this type of intelligence that allows for technology, changing the face of the planet, etc...it's drawback is to make us very susceptible to believing in the ridiculous.

We're EVOLVED. In this particular case, that means we're smarter. If you ask someone with a severe mental disability, he won't care if he lives forever either. When an organism evolves, certain things change, but not everything does. In any case, you can't have evolution without change. Stating the differences between us and other primates doesn't prove a thing.
BTW, Darwin never said we evolved from apes. He said we were RELATED to apes and may have had a common ancestor. Big difference.

All animals have a self preservation instinct. Thats why the rabbit runs from the fox. Humans are probably unique in our realization that even if we see no enemy trying to eat us, we know we will die some day. That presents us with a psychological problem: We evolved to fear our destruction (like all animals) but we know we will die eventually. Thus, humans invent religionous beliefs like reincarnation, souls, etc. that allow believers to tell themselves that death isnt really the end.

Uhhhhhh..... when human beings evolved, their capacity to reason evolved as well. I have a feeling that we are the one's who have dreams of eternity as we have bigger egos. 2,000 years ago, human beings didn't live that long, did they? I think they accepted death as a natural part of living. No one was really talking about eternal life. I'm not sure where your comparison is going but apes are a very emotional and well reasoned species of animal. They mourn their dead. Who cares if your ego is angry about evolution? You evolved. Period.

How can you say that animals, which we are a type of, do not want to continue to live? Self preservation is one of the strongest drives that most species have and the only thing that overrides it is the desire to reproduce.

I'd say that your argument is not based in facts and at best is rather flimsy.

Here we go again!!!

We DID NOT evolve from apes. Please study Chromosome #2. Perhaps then you will understand.

Edit:
Ecclesiastes 3:11 according to the KJV Bible is:

11He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

That's a bit different from what you are saying. I think you might just be misinterpreting the Bible to suit your purpose.
