I am curious what special things you do for your bird. I told a former friend of mine that I did not go on vacations anymore as I do not want to leave my birds. This person told me I was crazy as you deserve time away from your home life and pets.
( I dont feel this way and thats why this person is a former friend ). I really dont have the desire anymore to travel now that
I have my birds. Even a day trip I cant enjoy as I know my birds are home alone and I usually only go away for maybe 6-8 hours. Does anyone else feel this way ? What special things do you and your bird do together ? Thanks for all answers.

Yes, I feel like this about my new baby Eclectus and also my houserabbit. People say 'Can't you just get someone else to look after it?' but I know from experience of kleaving my houserabbit with my parents for a week, he was aggressive towards them and depresssed.

Birds are a big commitment especially companion birds so people have to make sacrifices like not going on holidays when they have them. We form very strong connections with our pets so they are very attached to us. They become upset if we go away and their routine is changed as they don't realise we are just going on vacation/been shopping all day, they think the flock has left them.

I have a play gym for my bird so he can be ou of the cage when I'm working. I spends loadsof time on my arm or shoulder when I'm reading, watching tv (ACTUALLY he is on my shoulder right this minute as I am typing) lol.

Can't your birds keep each other company for a while?
Of course if you prefer to stay home, there's nothing wrong with that. But if you stay home only because you think the birds will be lonely (when they do have each other), that would concern me a little.
I have an elderly budgie that I've had for years; and a youngish cockatiel that I was given against my will, but I do my best for her; and she is great friends with the budgie.
The cockatiel is having more fun since a six-year-old girl has managed to finger-tame her and play all kinds of juvenile games with her. Yesterday she took the plastic ring from a milk bottle and put it around the bird's neck, and they both had a lot of fun taking it off and putting it on and the bird nibbling pieces off of it.
