get to the doctor asap. while its rare for someone your age to have colon cancer, it could happen...or some other GI inflammatory disease could be going on.

Red specks that look like tissue may explain lower left abd. pain. But black specks (not poppy seed) may indicate bleeding from higher up in the GI tract that has actually been digested.... looks like coffee grounds.

Don't hesitate w/ this any longer. Best wishes to you!

Poppy seeds do not digest properly, they could very well have scraped your colon causing the blood flecks you see. Since you are having left-sided abdominal pain, you could also now have developed diverticulitis (inflammation of the colon) from the poppy seeds possibly being embedded there. Your best option is to see a doctor, possibly have a colonoscopy to further delineate any other problems you may be experiencing.

Good luck.

As with your other question...you need to go see a gastroenterologist. What you're describing can be just from what you ate. Upper digestive bleeding normally causes black tarry stools... lower normally causes fresh red blood. As far as going a lot..that could be caused by IBS " Irritable bowel syndrome. " As for the left sided pain...it depends. If you have IBS then the pain can be caused by over activity of the rectum.
