& also, what kind of meat do you recommend I put in my black-eyed peas? Do you think I should have collard, mustard, or turnip greens? or spinach? What's a good New Year's dessert? Do you think I should have koolaid or soda? Sorry for so many questions.

Cornbread is the best choice! I like smoked bacon in the black eyed peas. And I think that collards would be a good choice with some turkey neck bones in it.

A good New Year dessert is Vasilopita a greek New Years Day tradition, A coin is baked into the cake and the person who gets it has good luck all year and sometimes a little prize. Here is a recipe, it kind of tastes like coffee cake.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup butter, softened
1 3/4 cups white sugar
5 eggs
2 tablespoons water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup blanched slivered almonds
2 tablespoons sesame seeds

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
In a large bowl, blend together the butter or margarine and the sugar. Separate 3 of the eggs; add the yolks and the 2 remaining whole eggs to the butter mixture. Stir in the vanilla and water.
In another bowl, sift together the baking powder and flour. Add these dry ingredients to the creamed mixture.
Whip 3 egg whites until they are foamy. Add 1 tablespoon sugar. Continue to whip the whites until they are stiff, but not dry. Fold whipped whites into batter.
Pour the batter into a greased 10 x 4 inch tube pan. Wrap a large coin in foil, and place the coin in the batter. Press the coin down; it should be completely hidden. Sprinkle the nuts and seeds on top of the batter.
Bake the cake for about 70 minutes, or until done. Cool on a wire rack

I would serve soda if you haven't a lot of kids coming, otherwise I would serve both.

Rather or not you are having cornbread or dinner rolls should depend on what kind of meat you are having.
Cornbread is especially great with ham or chicken, but rolls would be better with beef.
The greens/spinach/collard mustard kind of depends on your meat too, but spinach would go with just about anything so I would have that.
How about just Ice Cream Sundaes for dessert.
You could make kind of a "salad bar" only with all different sundae toppings, people usually love that!
Unless your guests are mostly quite young, I would go with Pop.
I guess the best advice I could give you would be to either think about what you would like to have at a party if you were the guest or think about what other people have had at parties that people seemed to really like and have that.

You seem really nervous about your party with all these questions, but there's no need to be.
People will be coming because they are your family or friends and care about you, not what food you have, so just take a big deep breath and relax!
Everything will be just fine!!!!!!
Good Luck!

If you are serving Ham or other pork dish, I would like cornbread and if it is Beef or Chicken, I would rather have a dinner roll.
For the black eyed peas, I would use a pork hock. I would like collard greens.
For desert; Sweet potato pie with whipped cream.
Soda (no koolaid for dinner).

New Years day supper is my favorite eating holiday of the year! Cornbread is a must. Put either smoked hog jowls or smoked ham hocks in your black eyed peas. Collards all the way. Sweet tea is mandatory, with pecan pie for dessert. Man I cant wait for new years day supper! A southern tradition!!! Cook a boneless boston butt pork roast all day too on low heat or in a crock pot.

Cornbread instead of rolls, mustard greens, and soda. Banana pudding would be a good dessert.
