Like if you're a good person then you can enter heaven

Or if you do good deeds or works then you can go to heaven

Also why do people say they're good when they know they're not?

When you do good, you feel peace and love that lead to heaven even on earth. If you do bad, all negative feelings and thoughts will make you feel hell even here.

As for people who say they are good though they are not, they simply want recognition from others. But, pardon them as they are feeling insecure inside which is why they need recognition to assure themselves.

The reason is that there are many false Christian Churches that teach that very thing. They teach that you get to Heaven by your "good works".
The truth is that we are saved by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ, but there are many people who want to believe in there own good works because they want to take the credit for there own salvation rather than give it to Jesus.

The Bible is quite clear that our own works do not help merit salvation. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done” (Titus 3:5). “Not of works” (Ephesians 2:9). “There is none righteous, no not one” (Romans 3:10). This means that offering sacrifices, keeping the commandments, going to church, being baptized, and other good deeds are incapable of saving anyone. No matter how “good” we are, we can never measure up to God’s standard of holiness (Romans 3:23; Matthew 19:17; Isaiah 64:6).

Good?

Well, lets see what Scripture says about this:

Romans 3:9-11 (New International Version)

9What shall we conclude then? Are we any better[a]? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. 10As it is written:
"There is no one righteous, not even one;
11there is no one who understands,

NO-NO One is Good!

And "good works" will NOT get you into Heaven, especially made clear here:

Ephesians 2:8-9 (New International Version)

8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9not by works, so that no one can boast.

The dictionary says "good" is to be "morally excellent." Let s look at God s moral standard the Ten Commandments, and see how we do. Is God first in your life? Do you love Him with "heart, mind, soul and strength?" Have you made a god to suit yourself? Have you used His name in vain? Have you always honored your parents? Have you looked with lust and therefore committed adultery in your heart? Have you lied (including "fibs"), stolen (the value is irrelevant), or coveted other people s possessions? If you are honest, you know you will be guilty on the Day of Judgment. God, however, doesn t want to send you to Hell. Jesus Christ suffered and died on the Cross, so you could go free. That s how much God loves you. We broke God s Law, but Jesus took our punishment and died on the cross. He then rose from the grave defeating death. If you repent (turn away from all the things you know are wrong) and trust in Him, God will forgive your sins and grant you everlasting life. Begin by reading your Bible daily and then obey what you read. God will never let you down.

OUR OWN WORKS CANNOT PLEASE GOD

For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. —Romans 10:2,3

But we are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are like filthy rags. —Isaiah 64:6a

"When I say to the righteous that he shall surely live, but he trusts in his own righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous works shall be remembered; but because of the iniquity that he has committed, he shall die." —Ezekiel 33:13

So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. —Romans 8:8

Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be Justified in His sight. —Romans 3:20a

Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God. —2 Corinthians 3:5

But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for "The just shall live by faith." —Galatians 3:11

Probably because people's mommies told them that when they were little. A little incentive to "be good" and make her day easier, eh?

Who says that?
I don't know one person that has ever said that.
But then, I don't hang in Catholic circles.
