You can't always get what you want, and if you try sometime you just might find, you get what you need.
Think I remember those words from 1969 by Mick n Keith on Let It Bleed album.
Could be applicable?

God always answers your prayers. God knows what is best for you, and so maybe He seems to be saying no alot. He has your long-term life in mind, and sometimes His answers may be "yes", but at other times He might say "no", or "not at the moment".
God wants only the best for you and so is helping you make the right decisions. In hindsight, we can see that something we once thought we really needed, was actually only a want.
Remember your prayers don't need to be questions. You can talk to God and thank Him for all that he has provided for you. :)

yes and, we dont always get what we think we want by asking. We come to God with prayer and thankfulness. We ask in his holy name for (something) or a prayer for (someone). Since God can see things from the beginning to the end, we will sometimes get a no. because when we pray for something, it might not be a good thing for us in the long run. Almighty God, is not a magic jennie granting wishes. He is the Master and Controller of the Universe., amen praise his holy name lord of lord king of kings.!

Yes, always - if the request in not for immediate outcome.
Believe in your own power to make a difference.
Be of a good heart and compassionate. Help others and give of yourself. Pray for more wisdom and ability to see beyond our materialistic world's pleasures.
Then - think of what you'd like to have happened. And it will come to you in it's own time.

Has anyone ever died from food poisioning after a prayer was given to bless the food. Seems like prayer is more of a vechicle to ease the fears of man than to comunicate with a higher being.

No, not always. Read JAMES Chapter Four.
"When you ask, you do not receive because you ask with wrong motives!" - James 4:3
