If Jesus died and was buried before sunset, and he was in the grave 3 nights and 3 days, and you count...
3 nights and 3 days from almost sunset
Night 1 almost sunrise
Day 1 almost sunset
Night 2 almost sunrise
Day 2 almost sunset
Night 3 almost sunrise
Day 3 Resurrection

AND
The tomb was found empty on Sunday morning
When did Jesus rise?
Then the bonus question, (which you work out from the first question by counting backwards) when did Jesus die?

Even if you are not a Christian, you have enough information here to work it out.
Now lets see how many people can answer.

This is not the death of one of the Magi, Pat. Jesus was not Chinese.

Thought I nailed that one last time. I'll try again. He was put in the tomb about sundown. Therefore He rose about sundown. Since He was not in the tomb on sunup Sunday morning, He must have risen about sundown of the Seventh Day (Saturday). To have been in the tomb 3 days and 3 nights, He must have been put in the tomb on Wednesday!

Yes, you are right in saying there is something wrong with the "he died on a Friday and rose on a Sunday" senerio. I researched this so many years ago it's hard to remember what I finally came up with but I think it was that He had to have died on Thurs in order to have it be 3 days and 3 nights.

To the answerer above me. Jesus didn't die on Wed. night or any night. He died at about 3 pm in the afternoon according to scripture.

People have always thought that He died on a Friday because it said that they hurried to break the thieves legs and get them all off the cross because "the sabbath drew near" but what people don't realize is that any day of a holy Jewish festival is referred to as a "sabbath" day.

To Pat below - Count the nights. Only 2.

In my opinion, Jesus died on Thursday and arose on Sunday, the first day of the week. Jesus fulfilled the sign of Jonah, as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish 3 days and 3 nights, so shall the son of man be in the earth for 3 days and 3 nights. God Bless

He rose on Sunday morning and died on Thursday afternoon on the cross before He ever touched the ground not as He was being buried. In Biblical terms the "evening and the morning" constitute a day. Good Friday begins on Thursday afternoon not Friday morning. He spent Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night in the grave and rose on Sunday morning, the end of the third day, 12 midnight starts the morning so anything after that is still morning of the third day. This isn't rocket science, you can't think of the days as we do now 12am-12pm-12am they counted 12pm-12am-12pm.

Friday-Day 1
Saturday-Day 2
Sunday-Day 3
Source: According to Chinese customs, the day of departure is considered the 1st day so even if it's 3a.m on a Friday or 3p.m on a Friday, it's considered as day 1. The departed is laid to rest 3, 5 or 7days later. (Always odd days)
So, yes, Jesus died at 3p.m on Friday, and rose again from the dead on Sunday. (The 3rd day)
Edit: Taken; Similarity nevertheless since there is no doubt that Jesus died on Good Friday and that He arose from the dead on Easter Sunday.

The Bible doesn't say three days and three nights. The Bible says three days he was buried on Friday and arose Sunday. Satan tried to confuse Jesus with scriptures also. God bless.

It says they were preparing for the Sabbath (saturday) when they gave the body to Joseph.
