Your troll question link leads to very old news, in fact some of the people involved in the incidents have been sent down and are doing time for their actions.
People have been threatened for centuries on British streets, by criminals, thieves low-life yobos. Every city and town has a criminal element.
You would need to be more specific in your question as to who and what are doing the threats.
With regards the terrorist threats they go back to pre 1968 with the so called (New) I.R.A. in Northern Ireland, Mainland Britain and near British Bases in Germany.
There was also the small British "Angry Mob" terrorists who used pipe-bombs, and the Scottish and Welsh extremists who have blown up property and houses because they respectively want "English" free states.
Even the U.V.F by placing a bomb or involvement in a gun attack are as much as a threat to public life and safety, there are known cases of then targeting the wrong person, the same way as the I.R.A. did.
Both organisations have now evolved into the Drug Dealing business as its more profitable than fighting for the beliefs!!
Currently the British are facing a Muslim Fundamentalist threat on the streets of the U.K.
The British Public are also facing threats from the Animal Liberation nutters.
So I would say there has always has been a threat level on the streets of the U.K. either through Race, Religion, Crime or Politics,
For the anally retarded: weapons guns, knives have not been allowed to be in the hands of the public for over 200 years so your sheep bleating about "because they took the guns away" is pathetic and shows you know Jack s**t about British law through the ages.
200 years ago most of you would have been poor peasant stock, with no land, no right to carry a gun, and living a very hard life, with the large possibility of if and when you committed a crime getting hung or being deported for life to Australia or the USA.In that time you could be hung for stealing a horse or a cow, murder or rape, or armed robbery.
The Fascist B.N.P. are not the answer but part of the problem, using bully boy tactics and racial hatred to promote their no-hope manifesto.

Your question is not clear. There are several answers.
1. There is less violence now than there ever has been. In 'the good old days' violence was considered normal say the 60s to punish kids. Go back to Victorian time, even more violent, and go back as far as you like its more violent. Romans for e.g. There has never been a Utopian society in the past.
2. The modern media is the phenomenon your regarding to. Studies show that although were actually safer we feel more threatened. Although it cant be immediately attributed to the media as there are other social factors, you cant help wondering what 24 hour news station and tacky sensationalism do.

Threats and thuggery have been rife as long as the human race has existed - it's part of the survival instinct.
I think though, that the sort of threats that you refer to, have steadily increased over the past fifty years - from the time that large scale immigration was tolerated.
Now it is completely out of hand!
Of course, these days, in addition it is fuelled by alchohol abuse and drugs.
Stronger punishment would help instead of the pathetic sentences imposed at the moment.
I would like to see corporal punishment brought back !

Well i Guess it was when it started to become a Multi racial Society that is when most of the threats and violence erupted and which left The Police with less control
And since that happend the Government have been coming up with very ridiculous policies etc and The BNP Have Been getting a lot more votes

When their colonies rebelled, seriously. This phenomenon is happening everywhere now, people who may or may not be native to the country begin to threaten everyone else who doesn't have the same beliefs or disapproves of someone elses. Violence is becoming a *way out* nowadays and it's sad :(

I will point out that police film these protests and seek prosecution afterwards - they don't get involved at the time to try and keep the situation calm. Following the ridiculous furore over the Danish cartoons, a number of extremists were given prison sentences for threatening and hateful behaviour.

I think it was the minute that you gave up your right to own a firearm.
Once you subject yourself to slavery you become an easy target for the strong willed.
Even if the Islamofascists had not come along it would have been the Russians or someone else.
My suggestion is to grow a backbone and become British again. Kick the lowlifes out and become a great nation once more.

You haven't been reading your history books, it's been going on for centuries. True, it does appear a recent phenomenon, it certainly seems bad at the moment, almost like a morbid fashion with willing followers. Problem is we've forgotten or are still unwilling to deal with it.
