I'm ashamed and embarrased of how poorly my fellow Christians spell. Really guys, it's not that hard. I think my 11-year-old brother can write better than most of you.

Sorry guys, typo. I'm using my Wii so.... I'm no hypocrite, trust me.

I'm not talking about slang.
They use the wrong "there", they say "where" when they mean were, and they say "except" when they mean "accept".

Because English spelling is difficult.

Some of us try, and some of us don't.

There are two rules you need to bear in mind:

1. If you write a post criticizing someones spelling or grammar, it is guaranteed that you will make at least one spelling or grammatical error in doing so. This is called Hartman's Law, and is as inescapable as the Law of Gravity.

2. Never use the words "embarrass" or "harass" or any of their derivatives in such a post. No one can reliably spell these properly. It's just asking for trouble.

The spell checker on YA is probably the worst on the web!!!!!

It can promote the wrong word and people just accept it.

Also bear in mind that many posters are children or people who do not have English as their first language. Indeed spelling differ widely between English, English and American English!!!

You should be ashamed and embarrassed at the way you look down on other people - you mention fellow Christians - WELL - what ever do you think is Christan about your attitude and understanding of others?!!!!!!

Its the typical decline in education. We want kids to learn more faster and some of the basics are being left behind.
Sure, they will be computer wizards when they grow up but they won't be able to spell computer without the machine spelling it for them.

Not all kids are like this I am generalizing.

The declining ability to spell and use proper grammar are the results of government schools and parents with low standards for their children. I've known a couple of high school graduates who were illiterate and I regularly work with high school graduates who honestly can't figure out how to use a tape measure. It's sad and makes me worry about our nation's future.

Sir, main objective of the language is to communicate with others. As long as one person is able to communicate to other (even though the spelling / grammar are not correct), it should serves the purpose. But I agree that one should improve upon.

I consider it my personal duty to point out bad spelling and grammar whenever I am able!!
My favorite t-shirt slogan: "Bad Spellers of America UNTIE!!"
(LOL---I think that was in a "Colorful Images" catalog some time ago....Have not seen it lately; must have annoyed some people!!)

Because being able to spell requires being able to read and write, and young people generally don't recognize the importance of either.

That's hilarious that 'embarrassed' was spelled wrong in your post! I think there are lots of people in text and IM world who think that it's funny or cute to misspell words or condense them. It's even crossed in to the baby naming world... I just met a little girl named Gorjuss - no kidding!

I can understand someone being a poor speller, if this is not their first language or they are learning-disabled or something, but yes, I have to agree, there is an unbelievable amount of truly horrific spelling here. (It is "embarrassed", by the way...when complaining about spelling, check it all twice, LOL)

The spell checker is right there!

The sad part is that they're even too lazy to hit the spell check that Yahoo provides...

Oh, it's spelled embarrass.
