I have 40 college credits from the Philippines, I transferred it here in a community college and I have taken up 10 credits total, studying part-time. I was a full time A/R Accountant in a hotel for a year, an Auditor the year before that. What are the chances that my experience be considered given my experiences if I want a paper pusher job (DK,PS, PN?) in the Navy? I am also planning to finish my BS during my service. What to ask the recruiter? What do I need to have them written down in paper? Is there a lot of competition in this field? Am I gonna get deployed in war zones? Thanks.

thanks for pointing that out. I am not an American citizen but a permanent resident. I was told my naturalization will be expedited when I join also.

Your experience is good but here is a huge heads up about your dream job of PS/DK. That rating is on its death bed now. In 2 years or less the PS rating which is a rating merger between DK and PN will be no more. PS's will be force converted to other rates and the jobs that the PS's used to do will be done by civilians at shore commands. If you really like the paperwork jobs your best choice is to become a YN (Yeoman). They will always have a great need for YN and the job can be very interesting depending on where you get stationed. If you are smart and hardworking you can succeed quickly at any job in the Navy, but YN is all about paperwork and Navy regulations. If you can read you can succeed. You can also work directly for the Commanding Officer or even an Admiral if you prove to be good at your job with good communication skills and work ethic. I am a PN and believe me you can work your butt off right now and you will never advance because they are not advancing anyone prior to the elimination of the rate. You should do really well with your education background with YN though. Good Luck and as far as the recruiter goes, just talk to them. They are not bad people and you seem open minded enough to understand the Navy as it is. It is a great jobl, a great life and a great way to great benefits and education. Good luck.

The big question is: "Are you an American Citizen"? If you are there is no problem, if not, you can still join but there is a lot more paper work. Go talk to a recruiter. You want the GI bill toward college, an enlistment bonus if possible and you want a guarantied "A" school in writing. You will have to go to MEPs and take your ASVAB test. Check out WWW. Military.com on their Discussions page for more information. There are a lot of recruiters on line that will answer your questions. Good Luck to you.

the ADMIN fields are going the way of the Dodo.. most shore billets are being turned over to civilians. DK and PN are no more..they are merged into PS. many SK jobs require a Clearance, which you cannot get until you get your Citizenship.

your prior experience won't really count for much. you will still take the ASVAB and those line scores dictate what ratings you are eligible for.

you can expect to be deployed, regardless what your rating is. It may or may not put you in harm's way.

Your recruiters job is to get you to sign on the dotted line. There are people in the National Guard who didn't sign up for war zones & they are there, so I would say it's a safe bet that it's fully possible at any time during your service with them & if you don't think you can handle that then don't sign the dotted line. You have to be fully ready or you will end up as one of the traumatized vets. It's a huge commitment you are making. You have to believe in what you are doing. The websites have extensive info & you can check those out for many of your questions. Here's the link. > http://www.navy.com/about/?campaign=Reprise_Yahoo_Navy-About_Navy-About_Text
Hope this helps. Good luck on your goals.
