Well, here's the deal.
Scripture's say that an image of God is wrong.
Now, if Jesus is a prophet, than an image would arguably okay.
But, if Jesus is viewed as God, then it is idolatry according to the Bible.
Rosarries aren't that bad. They're, in my opinion, not reinforced by scripture, but they aren't idols since they aren't worshipped or an image of God.
My opinion, mind you.

Ok, what is the meaning of idol? It is some statue for which you say 'this is god' but actually god doesn't look like that. So, one cannot say for anything and everything one makes "this is God". To make a statue of Jesus or God like in the Hindu tradition, it is compulsory that the Deity is made according to bona fide descriptions and moreover, after the Deity is ready the power of God is invited into the Deity by a special ceremony. Such specially installed Deity form will respond to the worship of the devotees who can understand the presence of God within the Deity form which obviously is not an idol. In India there are thousands of stories how the deities accepted the worship, for example accepting the food offered to them, like several years ago the deity of Ganesh drank the milk offering in all the temples all over the world, on the same day. This is only one example out of many.
so briefly, the power of god is in the bona fide deity, and an idol is a curved form of something for which you say it is god or a saint but actually it is not their authorized form.

I think you about 1900 years too late for that. The sad truth is that Christianity did NOT spread through the country side by word of mouth but rather, by sword. In other words, either convert or die!! Even Buddhism and Confucionism went throught the same process. The only religion I know of that had peaceful beginnings without any split was Taoism.
From a logical standpoint, yes I have thought about this. It is common occult knowledge that everything you see, the stars your house, your car...is a symbol for Seperation from the Divine. Mental Constructs or things, which the sufis called the 'imaginal' or what Carl Jung termed 'archetypes' are symbols to show you what you are NOT. Only by losing our selves and need for physical attachments do we come to know our true nature:
You are Love. Everything else is illusion.

Well, Godtube.com isn't exactly Catechism or the Bible, so don't put too much stock in all you see and hear via that site.
In order to understand why we pray to Jesus, you need to be familiar with the Holy Trinity - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Son is of course Jesus. The Trinity is three persons in one God. They are all the same Divine One, and all equals. We pray before the crucifix and statues of Jesus and saints to help us pray, we don't pray TO them. For example, during the Christmas season, many churches display a nativity set with a kneeler in front of it so that one can pray while looking at the nativity, thinking about the birth of Jesus, the events taking place, etc. It's not that thing being prayed to; it's an aid to prayer, a thing to help us remember and visualize while praying to Him.
We Catholics have saints that we pray to for their intercession - that they will lift our prayers up to God for us and help us out. We don't pray to the saints like we pray to God, but think of it as calling someone on the phone and asking them to give a message to a person in the shower that you were actually trying to get a hold of. Okay, so not the best analogy, but it's four in the morning. Statues of Mary are once again to help us pray and focus on her. We can think about her sacrifice, saying "Yes," to God and giving Him everything; agreeing to stay chaste, allow Him to guide her, etc. The Rosary is another prayer aid. The beads help us visualize the number of prayers we will be saying. To us, the Rosary is like holding Mary's hand and praying for her to intercede for us. She is, after all, a great saint.
I'm not upset - I'm glad to be able to explain it and hopefully enlighten some people. The media gives such a bad name to everything it touches on, including our Church.

For instance, the crucifix is a reference to the pagan god tammuz. According to the Greek scriptures, Jesus wasn't nailed to a cross, he was impaled on a torture stake. (Don't take my word for it, investigate it.) At any rate, why would he want his followers carrying around a graven image of the device used to put him to death?

Anything can become an idol if you put it before God.
And yes, Jesus did say to pray to God not him.

Read the Bible and you will see how many things the Catholics have wrong. The one most important thing that they have right is Jesus Christ is the Savior.
